Principal Software Engineer (Quant Research Platform) | Elite Hedge Fund | NYC

An elite hedge fund in New York is growing a high-profile engineering group that works directly with their Quantitative Researchers. They’re in the midst of a greenfield effort to build a cutting edge, research platform, Python libraries, applications, and tools to support the Quants. This firm has a tight-knit, collaborative, and meritocratic culture, a flat hierarchy, and very little bureaucracy limiting the velocity of development or innovation.

This role will collaborate directly with Researchers to own projects from conception to implementation, building POCs, soliciting feedback, iterating, and building full-scale production systems and tools from scratch. You’ll be a hands-on thought leader responsible for guiding projects, mentoring other engineers, setting direction, and leading by example everyday (this is a 100% hands-on role).

An ideal candidate has hands-on experience building Python libraries from scratch or collaborating with researchers/portfolio managers to build tooling, infrastructure, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build cutting edge quantitative research systems, tools, and infrastructure
  • Design and build Python libraries for researchers
  • Help define enterprise architecture, set strategic direction for the engineering org, evaluate new technologies, and drive innovation across multiple areas
  • Mentor junior engineers on coding best practices, architecture, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and building Python libraries
  • Experience designing, building, and driving complex zero-to-one initiatives from scratch
  • Experience working with quant researchers, portfolio managers, or traders to building tooling, application, or infrastructure
  • Nice to have: experience wearing multiple hats on a small team, working directly with quant researchers, designing critical, high profile applications/platforms and their infrastructure

Benefits:

  • Industry leading compensation and benefits
  • Hybrid flexibility in NYC office
  • Chance to join a high-visibility and impact engineering team building the most business-critical investment technology solutions
