Role summary

Seeking a Senior AWS Data Engineer in Torrance, CA for a long-term contract role. The position focuses on designing, building, and optimizing scalable data pipelines and cloud-based data platforms using AWS services like Glue, Lambda, Redshift, and DMS. Responsibilities include ETL/ELT development, serverless integration, data warehouse optimization, and ensuring compliance with SOX and regulatory requirements. Requires 10+ years of data engineering experience and 8+ years with AWS, including strong skills in PySpark, SQL, Redshift, Lambda, Glue, DMS, and workflow orchestration tools like Airflow. Experience with AWS Transfer Family and security best practices is preferred.

Pay Range:
$63.00 – $70.00 per hour (based on experience and internal equity)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior AWS Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and cloud-based data platforms within an enterprise environment.

This role will focus on ETL/ELT development, serverless architecture, and data warehouse optimization using AWS services such as Glue, Lambda, Redshift, and DMS, supporting business intelligence and data-driven initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Pipeline Development

• Design and implement scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS Glue with PySpark for large-scale data processing

• Develop and maintain server-less integrations using AWS Lambda for event-driven workflows

• Implement data ingestion and integration pipelines across multiple systems

Data Warehouse & Analytics

• Design, develop, and optimize Amazon Redshift data warehouse solutions

• Perform performance tuning, build stored procedures, and support advanced SQL analytics

• Analyze data quality, transformation logic, and query performance

Cloud Architecture & Integrations

• Implement secure vendor file transfer and ingestion solutions using AWS Transfer Family

• Design and execute database migration and replication pipelines using AWS DMS

• Build orchestration workflows using Apache Airflow or similar tools

Collaboration, Compliance & Support

• Collaborate with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance teams to meet SOX and regulatory requirements

• Guide development teams on AWS best practices for performance, scalability, and cost optimization

• Troubleshoot production data pipelines and resolve integration issues across AWS services

• Support BI environments and data platform operations

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

• 10+ years of experience building data platforms or data engineering solutions

• 8+ years of hands-on experience with AWS cloud services

• Strong experience with AWS Glue and PySpark for ETL processing

• Hands-on experience developing serverless applications using AWS Lambda

• Deep experience with Amazon Redshift, including performance tuning and SQL analytics

• Experience implementing workflow orchestration using Apache Airflow or similar tools

• Experience with AWS DMS for data migration and replication

• Strong SQL skills with experience writing complex queries

• Knowledge of AWS security, IAM policies, encryption, and compliance standards

• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in financial services or regulated environments

• Experience implementing secure vendor integrations using AWS Transfer Family

• 3+ years of Big 4 consulting experience

• Stable work history within large enterprise organizations
