Public Sector Solutions Group (PS2G) is seeking a
Senior Software Systems Engineer
to support enterprise automation and infrastructure platforms within a
primarily on-premise data center environment with hybrid cloud integration
.
This role is critical to building and sustaining a scalable automation ecosystem that supports infrastructure delivery across both
on-prem and cloud environments
. The ideal candidate brings a
strong foundation in traditional infrastructure/system administration
and has evolved into automation and platform engineering using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and OpenShift.
This is
not a cloud-only role
. Candidates must demonstrate hands-on experience managing infrastructure within
enterprise data centers
, not solely cloud-native environments.

Core Responsibilities
Automation & Platform Engineering
- Design, deploy, and manage enterprise automation platforms including:
- Terraform Enterprise
- Ansible Automation Platform
- Vault, Packer
- Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automation frameworks across hybrid environments
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps
Infrastructure & Systems Support (On-Prem Focus)
- Support infrastructure within
enterprise data centers
, including:
- Virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/VCF)
- Kubernetes platforms (OpenShift, TKG)
- Perform system administration tasks including OS support, patching, and performance tuning
- Manage infrastructure lifecycle, capacity planning, and system reliability
Containerization & Orchestration
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Kubernetes environments (OpenShift preferred)
- Support containerized applications and platform services
- Implement GitOps workflows using tools such as ArgoCD or Flux
Monitoring, Security & Reliability
- Implement observability solutions (Prometheus, Grafana)
- Manage access controls (RBAC, SSO, PKI)
- Ensure platform security, compliance, and governance
Collaboration & Enablement
- Partner with development, security, and operations teams
- Develop documentation, standards, and operational procedures
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineering teams
Operational Support
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and platform issues
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 5–8 years of experience in:
- Infrastructure Engineering, DevOps, or Platform Engineering
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience with:
- Terraform, Ansible, or similar automation platforms
Technical Expertise
- Enterprise Automation Tools:
- Terraform Enterprise
- Ansible Automation Platform
- Kubernetes & Virtualization:
- OpenShift, TKG, VMware/VCF
- CI/CD Tools:
- Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps
- Strong foundation in:
- Linux administration
- Networking fundamentals
- Security controls
- Hybrid cloud experience (AWS, Azure, etc.)
Critical Requirement
- Proven experience supporting
on-premise infrastructure environments
- Background in
system/server administration prior to automation/platform roles strongly preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing hybrid automation architectures from the ground up
- Experience in
utilities or regulated industries
- Experience in large-scale, geographically distributed environments
Preferred Certifications (Nice to Have)
- HashiCorp Terraform Associate
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Ansible Specialist
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
- OpenShift Administration Certification
- AWS/Azure/GCP Associate
Additional Technical Skills
- Scripting: Python, Bash, PowerShell
- Observability: Prometheus, Grafana
- Container tools: Helm, ArgoCD, Flux
- Policy-as-Code: OPA, Sentinel, Kyverno
- Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB (Kubernetes context preferred)
