Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer (AWS)

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Work Model: Onsite

Job Type: Contract

We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer to support the design, build, automation, security, and ongoing support of AWS cloud environments for large-scale public health and public sector initiatives. This is a hands-on role for a seasoned cloud professional with deep AWS expertise, strong Linux administration experience, and a proven track record in production support, automation, security, and cloud-native architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, deploy, and support secure, scalable, and high-performing AWS cloud environments
  • Manage and maintain cloud-based production systems with a focus on availability, security, performance, and reliability
  • Administer and troubleshoot Linux environments, especially Red Hat and Unix-based systems, including hardening and automation
  • Implement and support microservices and distributed architectures using containers, Kubernetes, Docker, and serverless technologies
  • Monitor application and infrastructure performance, review production logs, and proactively recommend improvements
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using DevOps tools and scripting
  • Implement cloud security controls across identity, network, encryption, and access management layers
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including system design, integration, configuration, and implementation artifacts
  • Develop integration plans and provide input into configuration, development, and sustainment activities
  • Evaluate new technologies, tools, and vendor solutions to improve operational efficiency and architecture maturity

Required Experience and Skills

  • 10+ years of overall IT experience, including strong experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, and production support
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS services such as VPC, IAM, EC2, S3, API Gateway, Lambda, Aurora, Redshift, Elastic Load Balancing, Auto Scaling, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, and related services
  • Exposure to additional AWS technologies such as DynamoDB, Kinesis Data Streams, Amazon Connect, Amazon Pinpoint, Amazon Polly, and ActiveMQ
  • 5+ years of experience with Unix/Linux systems such as Red Hat and Solaris, including installation, troubleshooting, hardening, and scripting
  • 3+ years of experience with Kubernetes and Docker administration in enterprise environments
  • Strong experience with cloud security best practices, especially identity, network, and encryption controls
  • Experience with GitLab or similar DevOps and CI/CD toolsets
  • Strong scripting and automation experience using tools/languages such as Python, Bash, JavaScript, Node.js, Java, or PHP
  • Experience with build and automation tools such as Git, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Jenkins, Maven, JIRA, and Confluence
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, metrics, troubleshooting, performance tuning, API integrations, and architecture/process improvement
  • Strong understanding of web, architecture, and security standards and best practices

Public Sector / Domain Experience

  • 5+ years of experience working with federal, provincial, or broader public sector healthcare environments
  • Experience supporting large, complex health-related IT projects
  • Knowledge of public sector enterprise architecture practices, gating processes, SDLC methodologies, and project delivery standards
  • Familiarity with ministry policies, approvals, and public sector I&IT project methodologies is highly preferred

Work Conditions

  • Onsite role in Toronto, Ontario
  • Standard working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 7.25 hours per day excluding lunch
