Role summary

The Senior Application QA Engineer will support the Maryland State Department of Education's Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs (OSCNP) by ensuring the quality of an agile-based application development project focused on strengthening Farm to School infrastructure. This role involves developing and executing comprehensive test plans, including system, integration, security, performance, UAT, unit, regression, and data conversion testing. Key responsibilities include database testing with SQL, defect management, accessibility testing (WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508), cross-browser/platform testing, and maintaining the Requirements Traceability Matrix. The engineer will also contribute to the test automation framework and deliver end-user training.

Job Overview
Resources will support the MSDE (Maryland State Department of Education), Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs (OSCNP) a non-competitive Farm to School (F2S) State Formula Grant. The grant intends to strengthen F2S infrastructure, build, and increase LEAs' capacity to procure and use local foods in school meals, thereby prioritizing improvements in supply chain resiliency. The MD agile-based application development activities include requirement analysis, functional design, and technical design, coding, configuration as well as testing and documentation-related activities across AWS cloud platform, data platform, and Farm to school program services.

Duties:

  • Develop and document test plans, test cases, and procedures across all test types: system, integration, security, performance, UAT, unit, regression, and data conversion.
  • Prepare and manage test data; validate results for conformance to design specifications.
  • Write and execute SQL queries for database testing; review data flow across multiple integrated systems.
  • Identify, document, and triage defects; produce defect resolution plans ensuring all critical and high defects are resolved prior to production.
  • Analyze defect resolutions to inform retesting plans; assist in maintaining and evolving the test automation framework.
  • Conduct accessibility testing across web and mobile platforms to ensure WCAG 2.1 Level AA and Section 508 compliance.
  • Test web and mobile applications across browsers and platforms to ensure cross-environment compatibility.
  • Develop and maintain the Requirements Traceability Matrix throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Deliver end-user training and produce training documentation (training plan, curriculum by module, role descriptions, and user counts) per DoIT standards.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout all phases of design, development, and testing.

Experience

  • 8 years of experience as an analyst/tester on software projects in supporting requirement analysis, application test script development, and execution.
  • 5 years of experience in mapping the business and technical requirements into test cases and generating test scripts.
  • 5 years of practical experience in using relational databases and generating SQL scripts is required.
  • 5 years of experience in using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical teams and users.
  • Should be able to triage change requests, and incidents during all phases of design, development, testing, and training.
  • Practical knowledge in manual and automated testing, 508 compliance, performance, UAT, Unit, regression, and integration testing.
  • Experience with automated testing and automated testing tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates having 3+ years of prior work experience with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) in developing applications, particularly ones that include a web based user interface, are desirable.

Experience in testing Java, JavaScript, jQuery, AngularJS, JMeter, and GitHub is required.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
