Role summary
Duolingo is seeking a Director, UK DET Comms Lead to spearhead the narrative, positioning, and integrated communications for the Duolingo English Test (DET) within the UK market. This role involves localizing global strategies, crafting compelling stories for diverse audiences (universities, employers, regulators, learners), and building programs to enhance awareness, trust, and adoption. The Director will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Policy/Legal, Marketing, and Data to ensure consistent, evidence-based messaging and measurable outcomes. Key responsibilities include defining the UK communications strategy, developing a continuous story pipeline, managing announcement planning, establishing operational rhythms, preparing spokespeople, measuring comms effectiveness, and proactively managing issues. The ideal candidate possesses over 10 years of communications experience, preferably in tech or education, with a proven track record in product, corporate, or policy communications, and exceptional skills in distilling complex information into clear narratives. Experience in issue management and building scalable communications systems is also essential. This role requires the ability to work from or relocate to London, UK.

We’re looking for a Director, UK DET Comms Lead to own the narrative, positioning, and integrated communications for the Duolingo English Test (DET) in the UK. You will localize the global DET strategy for UK audiences, translate product and policy updates into clear, credible stories for universities, employers, regulators, and learners, and build repeatable programs that drive awareness, trust, and adoption across the UK market. This role sits within Global Communications and partners closely with the DET business, Product, Policy/Legal, Marketing, Data, and regional PR leads to ensure messages are consistent, evidence‑based, and measurable, while advancing UK‑specific goals.
