Role summary
ElevationHR seeks a hands-on Data Engineering & BI Lead for a hybrid role in Houston, TX. This 1099 contract-to-hire position involves owning end-to-end data solutions within the energy and infrastructure sector. The role requires designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines using Azure and Databricks, developing data models, and supporting BI solutions. The lead will partner with business stakeholders, ensure data quality and scalability, enforce engineering best practices, and mentor team members. Ideal candidates have 5-10+ years of experience in data engineering, strong Azure data ecosystem knowledge, Databricks/Spark proficiency, advanced SQL, and Python skills for data processing.

Data Engineering & BI Lead

This role is ideal for a strong data engineer who is ready to step into a lead position while remaining deeply involved in technical delivery. You will own data solutions end-to-end—partnering with business stakeholders, designing scalable data pipelines, and delivering insights that drive real business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
- Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements and define data solutions
- Design, build, and optimize data pipelines using Azure and Databricks
- Develop and maintain data models aligned with reporting and analytics needs
- Support and enhance BI and reporting solutions
- Lead delivery across the full lifecycle from requirements to deployment
- Ensure data quality, performance, and scalability of solutions
- Review code and enforce engineering best practices
- Troubleshoot data issues and resolve production challenges
- Mentor team members and support overall delivery quality
Required Qualifications
- 5–10+ years of experience in data engineering or related field
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure data ecosystem (Data Factory, Data Lake, Synapse, etc.)
- Experience with Databricks and Spark-based data processing
- Advanced SQL skills
- Proficiency in Python for data processing and pipeline development
- Proven ability to design and build scalable data pipelines
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects or guide technical delivery
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in energy, oil & gas, or utilities industry
- Experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker
- Familiarity with tools such as dbt, Airflow, or similar
- Experience with real-time or streaming data pipelines
Additional Requirements
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Only US Citizens or Green Card Holders considered
- Corp-to-Corp (C2C) engagements are not permitted
- Must be local to Houston, TX or able to work onsite (no relocation provided)
