Role summary

Eolas is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend systems using C# and Python on AWS. This role requires a strong technical leader to drive architecture decisions, optimize performance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams on cloud-native solutions. Responsibilities include leading backend design, establishing best practices, mentoring engineers, developing microservices and APIs, optimizing applications, managing AWS infrastructure, and implementing monitoring strategies. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of backend experience, expertise in AWS, proficiency with APIs and microservices, database knowledge, and experience with containerization tools.

Eolas is fully remote, with most of the US team based in the Orlando and Atlanta metro areas. Hiring is currently focused within Florida and Georgia as our team continues to expand.

About the Role:

As part of our growing engineering team, the Lead Backend Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance backend systems using C# and Python on AWS.

This role requires a strong technical leader who can drive backend architecture decisions, optimize system performance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, cloud-native solutions.

What You'll Do:

  • Technical Leadership
  • - Lead the design and architecture of scalable backend services using C# and Python.
  • - Establish best practices for backend development, including security, performance, and maintainability.
  • - Mentor and guide a team of server engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative engineering culture.
  • Backend Development & Implementation
  • - Develop and maintain microservices, APIs, and data processing pipelines.
  • - Implement server-side logic, business rules, and data management strategies.
  • - Optimize applications for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure Management
  • - Design and manage cloud-native solutions on AWS, leveraging services like Lambda, EC2, S3, DynamoDB, and RDS.
  • - Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting strategies to ensure system reliability and uptime.
  • - Collaborate with DevOps to establish CI/CD pipelines and automate deployment processes.
  • Collaboration & Innovation
  • - Work closely with frontend, product, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration of backend services.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to enhance system performance and development efficiency.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in cloud architecture and backend engineering.

You’ll Be Successful in This Role if You Have/Are

  • 8+ years of experience in backend development with expertise in C# and Python.
  • Strong experience building cloud-native applications on AWS.
  • Proficiency with RESTful APIs, WebSockets, and microservices architecture.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, etc.).
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with security best practices for cloud applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Experience leading technical teams and mentoring junior engineers.
