Role summary

Everise Digital, a fast-growing AI-driven digital agency, seeks a Senior Data Engineer for a remote, contract role focusing on technical discovery and planning. This position involves translating business data goals into structured, build-ready plans by leading discovery calls, drafting architecture and design documents, and defining scope. The ideal candidate has a hands-on data engineering background, experience with data pipelines and warehouses, and strong communication skills to bridge the gap between stakeholders and developers. Familiarity with modern data stacks is a plus. This role requires owning outcomes in a startup environment and offers flexible hours with compensation between $150-$200 USD per hour.

About Everise Digital

Everise Digital is a full-service digital agency specializing in AI-driven systems, modern web applications, and scalable data platforms. We serve clients across the US market and are growing fast. We're looking for a data engineer with strong technical depth and good communication skills to lead discovery and translate business ideas into structured, build-ready plans. This role works directly with the CTO.

What We're Looking For

  • Hands-on background in data engineering - comfortable reading code, discussing data architecture, and working through implementation tradeoffs with engineering teams
  • Experience building data pipelines, data warehouses, ETL/ELT workflows, analytics platforms, or AI/ML data infrastructure (this is a data engineering role, not infrastructure or network engineering)
  • Proven experience participating in discovery, scoping, or requirements gathering - ideally with US-based clients or stakeholders
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation: data architecture diagrams, pipeline specifications, and scope definitions
  • Strong communication skills - you can simplify complex data concepts for non-technical stakeholders without losing accuracy
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving startup environment where you own outcomes, not just tasks
  • Familiarity with modern data stacks (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt, Airflow, Python, SQL, Kafka, etc) is a plus - you don't need to code every day, but you should be able to speak the language

What You'll Do

  • Lead discovery and technical scoping calls - translating business data goals into technical requirements
  • Draft high-level data architecture outlines, solution approaches, and system design documents
  • Define scope, risks, and technical feasibility in collaboration with the engineering team
  • Prevent scope creep through structured documentation and clear handoff processes
  • Serve as the bridge between stakeholders and developers - communicating technical decisions back in plain language
  • Support proposal validation and ensure delivery alignment throughout the project lifecycle

Engagement Details

  • Remote
  • 5 hours/week to start (with potential for long-term collaboration)
  • Flexible schedule - availability required for client and team calls during standard US business hours (EST or CST)
  • $150–200 USD per hour(based on performance and experience)
