Role summary

Farmers Business Network (FBN) is seeking a Software Engineer specializing in backend development to join their pioneering digital marketplace in the agriculture space. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining high-quality software solutions for a groundbreaking digital grain trading and sustainability platform. The engineer will architect and implement backend systems, own full feature sets, and collaborate closely with product management, data science, and business leaders. The ideal candidate has 6+ years of relevant experience, strong computer science fundamentals, architectural skills for complex backend systems, expertise in languages like Python/Go/Java/C++, relational database experience (Postgres, MySQL), and exposure to DevOps (AWS) and LLM-powered coding tools.

The Role

FBN is pioneering digital tools in the agriculture space. We are building the leading traceability marketplace, connecting farmers with markets that most value their harvest. In this role, you will:

  • design, build and maintain high-quality software solutions to real-world problems
  • architect and implement back-end systems for a groundbreaking digital grain trading and sustainability platform
  • own full feature sets and significant portions of the codebase
  • collaborate closely with product management, data science, and business leaders
  • continue to push your engineering skills through complex projects and collaborations with highly experienced engineers

The Person

You are the right person for this role if you have a passion for building robust and scalable systems that tame complex problems, with an appreciation for quality and testability. Additionally, you should have:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • excellent computer science skills
  • strong track record and architectural skills for building complex backend systems
  • deep expertise in a programming language such as Python / Go / Java / C++, etc
  • relational database experience (e.g.: Postgres, MySQL)
  • exposure to DevOps (AWS)
  • experience with latest LLM-powered coding tools and agents

The following represents FBN's reasonable estimate of the US national average base salary range for this role based on market data and placement of internal employees: $135,900-$166,000. This salary range may vary based on geography and the higher cost of labor in some metropolitan areas.
