Role summary

Fleet AI is seeking experienced Product Data Scientists for flexible, contract-based engagements. This role involves applying deep data science expertise to identify failures in frontier AI models, collaborating with internal teams and other experts to solve complex problems, and evaluating AI-generated analytical work. Candidates should have experience in e-commerce data science, be comfortable explaining analytical reasoning and uncertainty, and thrive in ambiguous, remote environments. The position requires approximately 20 hours per week, with compensation ranging from $80-$200 USD per hour, aligned with expertise and impact.

About Fleet AI

Fleet AI is an applied artificial intelligence company focused on human–AI collaboration at scale.

Our goal is to accelerate the transition to the allocation economy—a future where humans direct work rather than perform it. This capability has historically been limited to the top ~1% of the global economy. We believe it should be accessible to everyone.

To get there, we are building training gyms for AI agents: high-fidelity simulation environments where agents can practice real tasks and humans can supervise, evaluate, and steer their behavior. These environments allow AI systems to gain experience with the actual tools, workflows, and constraints of the teams they support.

About the Role

As a
Fleet Fellow, Domain Expert (Product Data Science)
, you’ll contribute deep, specialized data science expertise to one or more active Fleet AI projects. Engagements range from short-term problem solving to longer-term collaborations, depending on project needs and mutual fit.

Experts work closely with Fleet AI’s internal team and with other Experts to shape, test, and scale systems at the frontier of human–AI collaboration. This role is designed for experienced data scientists who enjoy autonomy, thrive in ambiguity, and care deeply about rigor, clarity, and real-world impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Apply deep data science expertise to identifying real world failures by frontier models
  • Collaborate with Fleet AI team members and other Experts to scope problems, design solutions, and iterate quickly
  • Review and evaluate AI-generated analytical work for correctness, statistical soundness, and practical relevance
  • Engage through internal tooling, with contributions tracked to support transparency, feedback, and long-term reputation building

You May Be a Good Fit If You

  • Have worked as a data scientist at an e-commerce company and are familiar with product data warehouses
  • Can clearly explain analytical reasoning and uncertainty
  • Prefer flexible, contract-based engagements over traditional full-time roles
  • Are motivated by impact, learning, and collaborating with highly capable peers
  • Care deeply about craft, rigor, and thoughtful execution
  • Are based in the US
  • Are able to commit ~20h/week and onboard within days

How Engagements Work

  • Fully remote, contract-based work
  • Projects vary in scope, duration, and time commitment
  • Compensation is project-based or hourly, aligned with experience and impact with payments issued through Deel
  • Performance, collaboration quality, and activity are transparently tracked to support future opportunities within Fleet AI’s Expert Network

Compensation

Compensation is competitive and aligned with expertise, scope, and impact.

- Typical hourly range:
$80–$200 USD
- Exceptional or highly specialized expertise may exceed this range
- Ongoing collaborations are often structured as monthly retainers rather than hourly billing
- $500 referral bonus for each candidate referred who works 20 hours

Our Philosophy

We believe the most important advances in AI will come from close, thoughtful collaboration between humans and machines. That work requires strong judgment, clear communication, and a willingness to operate at the edge of what exists today.

We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every qualification listed. Many strong candidates underestimate their fit, and we care far more about demonstrated expertise and how you think than about credentials alone.

Come help shape how humans and AI work together—at scale.
