Controls Automation Engineer (ENTRY LEVEL)
Role summary
Seeking an entry-level Controls Automation Engineer to design, develop, and implement control systems for automated conveying and material handling equipment. Responsibilities include PLC/HMI/drive programming, electrical panel design, network configuration, and system testing. The role requires a degree in a relevant engineering field or equivalent experience, with a basic understanding of PLC programming and electrical schematics. Preferred qualifications include experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell platforms, HMI development, VFDs, and industrial communication protocols. This is an onsite position with approximately 10% travel required after the probationary period.
We are seeking an ENTRY LEVEL Controls Automation Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of control systems for automated conveying equipment and material handling systems. This role will work closely with mechanical engineering, production, and project teams to develop reliable machine control solutions.
The position is open to entry-level candidates with strong technical foundations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop PLC-based control systems for conveying and material handling equipment
- Program and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and drive systems
- Electrical panel design, component selection, and control architecture
- Configure and integrate industrial communication networks
- Support machine testing, commissioning, and system validation
- Work with engineering teams to develop and improve automation solutions
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, control drawings, and technical documentation
- Assist with system troubleshooting and root cause analysis during machine development
- Support standardization and continuous improvement of control system designs
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related field OR equivalent hands-on experience in industrial automation
- Basic understanding of PLC programming and industrial controls
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a team-based engineering environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell Automation PLC platforms (CompactLogix, ControlLogix, Micro800)
- Experience programming and troubleshooting Rockwell PLC platforms
- Experience with HMI development (FactoryTalk View, PanelView, or similar)
- Experience with Rockwell PowerFlex drives or similar VFD platforms
- Knowledge of motor control, sensors, and industrial automation hardware
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, etc.)
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or other electrical design software
- Experience supporting machine startup, testing, or system integration
Travel Requirements
Approximately 10% travel may be required after the probationary period to support equipment startup, system testing, or customer commissioning.
