Role summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is seeking a System Development & Test (SD&T) Engineer in Poway, CA. This role involves hands-on test and evaluation engineering for innovative General Atomics systems, including unmanned platforms. The engineer will perform T&E activities, act as a test engineer during operations, coordinate test assets, generate documentation, conduct ground and flight tests, and provide leadership during test events. Responsibilities include supporting technical reviews, collaborating with engineering teams, troubleshooting issues, and communicating test results. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience, a strong understanding of engineering concepts, and the ability to work independently and on a team. A DoD clearance is required, and travel is expected.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a System Development & Test (SD&T) Engineer. This position is located at our Poway, CA location supporting test and evaluation engineering activities on novel and innovative General Atomics systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform Test and Evaluation (T&E) activities and determine/develop various approaches to achieve T&E goals and help guide the completion of test activities.
  • Act as test engineer during test operations. Test duties include system level T&E of hardware and software with emphasis placed on test asset coordination, generating test documentation, conducting and directing SIL, ground, and flight test, and providing ground and flight crew direction/leadership during tests events.
  • Support test plan working groups, technical reviews, and safety reviews.
  • Work side by side with systems/project/software engineering on all associated documentation.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally during all phases of flight test programs to include test plans, ground and flight test procedures/cards, test observations, and issues and test reports.
  • May be required to make technical presentations to project staff.
  • Support engineering staff to identify, analyze, troubleshoot, and aid in developing solutions to test and integration issues found during all phases of test utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Prior experience in a Test & Integration role for manned and/or unmanned aircraft platforms is highly desired.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; Demonstrate the ability to follow and apply basic engineering knowledge, adapt standard techniques, and utilize the required diagnostics, tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to perform tasks in multiple engineering areas.
  • Must be able to work both independently and on a team.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • An EIT (Engineer in Training) certificate is desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US DoD clearance is required.
  • 25% travel is required.

Job Type: Full-Time Salary
Salary range: 62,510 - 105,628
