Structural Test Engineer
Role summary
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) seeks a Structural Test Engineer to support engineering staff in analyzing, investigating, and resolving structural test-related problems. This role involves fixture design and analysis, test planning, and test execution, including operating Data Acquisition (DAQ) equipment and load control systems. The engineer will select and configure sensors and instrumentation, document findings, and communicate results. The position requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or a related field, with at least two years of engineering experience. A general understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory is necessary, with specific strengths in statics, instrumentation, and data acquisition being preferred. The role requires strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. An EIT certificate and the ability to obtain a DoD Clearance are desirable.

This position is under general supervision and with regular review, this position supports the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation and resolution of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity, specifically regarding structural test. Assignments are normally accompanied by general instructions and suggestions, outlining possible approaches, sources or information, and potential problems to be encountered with work reviewed regularly for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy. Tasks involve the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance. Documents findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to engineering staff. Contacts are primarily internal with infrequent inter-organization or customer contact on routine matters. May provide direction to design or technician staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Applies technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned engineering problems regarding structural test design, analysis, instrumentation, and load control. Primary tasks involve fixture design and analysis, test planning, and test execution.
- Operates Data Acquisition (DAQ) equipment and associated software to record and analyze test data.
- Selects and configures sensors and instrumentation appropriately to meet test requirements.
- Configures and operates load control system / PID controller to accurately apply structural test loads.
- May provide direction to design and/or technical staff.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Must have a general understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
- Specific strengths in statics, instrumentation, data acquisition preferred.
- Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
- Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to work extended hours as required.
- An EIT (Engineer in Training) certificate is desirable.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance is required.
