Gilmour Academy is an independent, Catholic, co-educational school in the Holy Cross tradition, dedicated to developing students of faith, character, and intellect. We are seeking a talented and passionate Lower School Science & Social Studies Teacher for grades 5 and 6. Primary teaching responsibilities will focus on science, with additional instruction in social studies. This is a unique opportunity for an educator energized by hands-on, nature-based learning.

Our Lower School program features a working greenhouse, chicken coop, and apiary, providing students with rich, real-world connections to science content. We are seeking an individual who embodies creativity, collaboration, and a profound commitment to personalized student learning within our community.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, student-centered science and social studies instruction to 5th and 6th-grade learners.
• Support and participate in Gilmour's nature-based learning program, including the greenhouse, chicken coop, and apiary.
• Design personalized learning experiences that connect content to students' lives, interests, and real-world contexts.
• Use ongoing assessment data to monitor progress, differentiate instruction, and communicate results to families.
• Integrate technology meaningfully and purposefully across daily instruction.
• Collaborate across disciplines and grade levels to develop a rich, cohesive curriculum.
• Actively support co-curricular science initiatives and participate enthusiastically in the life of the Lower School.
• Integrate Catholic and Holy Cross values into daily teaching and classroom culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science, chemistry, or a closely related field required; Master's degree preferred.
• Valid Ohio teaching license required; candidates eligible to obtain licensure will be considered.
• Demonstrated experience teaching science at the elementary or lower middle school level required; experience in an independent or Catholic school setting preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, families, and colleagues.
• Proven track record of producing significant gains in student outcomes.
• Self-motivated, creative, and highly organized with strong planning skills.
• Experience integrating instructional technology meaningfully across academic disciplines preferred.
• A collaborative team player who contributes positively to school culture and takes on additional duties enthusiastically.
• Experience with nature-based or outdoor learning environments preferred.
• Commitment to professional growth, continuous learning, and Gilmour's Catholic and Holy Cross mission.
• Must pass a BCI/FBI background check.
