Summary
GlobalSource IT is a staffing agency that primarily provides SAP resources either as staff augmentation contractors or direct-hire employees. Our direct client is looking for a Data Engineer to help support and build out a growing data environment that sits at the center of the business. You’ll be working across a complex landscape of over 20 ERP systems, helping bring data into a centralized Azure environment and making sure it’s reliable, accurate, and usable. On any given day, you might be checking pipeline runs, digging into logs to troubleshoot issues, resolving data inconsistencies, or working with teams to bring a new data source online.
This role is a true mix of build and support. About half your time will go toward improving and expanding pipelines, and the other half will be spent keeping things running, investigating issues, and working with business users to solve problems tied to reporting and data accuracy. You’ll collaborate closely with a strong technical team, including a data architect and senior engineer, and you’ll need to be comfortable speaking up, asking questions, and working through ambiguity. This is a good fit for someone who is hands-on, curious, and takes ownership of their work, especially in environments where things are evolving quickly.
Key Responsibilities
• Build & operate pipelines using Azure Data Factory (or Synapse Data Pipelines) to ingest and transform data into our Azure Data Lake and Synapse/SQL layers.
• Develop SQL views/tables and reusable transformation logic to support analytics and reporting (including Power BI semantic models).
• Own reliability for assigned data domains: monitor jobs, triage incidents, perform root cause analysis, and execute break/fix and performance tuning.
• Ensure data quality via validation checks, schema enforcement, and automated tests; document lineage and business rules.
• Collaborate with BI developers and business partners to translate requirements into well-documented data sets optimized for consumption.
• Harden and improve CI/CD (Azure DevOps), environments, and runbooks for repeatable, compliant delivery.
• Contribute to standards (naming, partitioning, coding patterns) and knowledge base articles/playbooks for on-call support.
Minimum Qualifications
• 2–5 years in data engineering or adjacent software/data roles with hands-on delivery in cloud data platforms.
• Strong SQL and performance tuning on Synapse/SQL Server (or equivalent).
• Practical experience with Azure Data Factory / Synapse pipelines, Databricks (PySpark), and Azure Data Lake.
• Familiarity with dimensional/semantic modeling for Power Query or Power BI.
Preferred Qualifications
• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric concepts, Purview governance, or metadata/lineage tooling.
• Experience integrating data from ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, Sage/SL, Business One) and SaaS sources.
• Data testing frameworks, orchestration patterns, and cost/performance optimization on Azure.
Benefits
• Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
• Retirement savings plan with company matching contributions.
• Generous paid time off, including holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
• Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
• Access to cutting-edge tools and technologies.
• Flexible work environment with remote work options.
• Diverse and inclusive company culture.
