Role summary

Our Security team is seeking a Senior Security Engineer specializing in AI Security to ensure the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. This role involves working with network equipment, monitoring systems for attacks, and collaborating with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws. You will perform technical security assessments, code reviews, and vulnerability testing to highlight risk, helping teams improve security across diverse software designs and technology stacks. The position also involves designing and building proactive methods to enhance security posture, with opportunities for specialization or research in various fields.

### Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with security assessments or security design reviews or threat modeling.
  • 5 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security and security protocols.
  • 5 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages.
  • 1 year of experience leading teams in a technical capacity or leading technical risk analysis in an enterprise environment.

### Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience building or deploying automated tools (e.g., LLM-based agents) for security workflows such vulnerability discovery or threat modeling.
  • Experience securing the SDLC from developer workstation through to cloud deployment, especially where there is multi-cloud or cloud-on-premises hybrid connectivity between fundamentally different architectures.

## About the job

Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. Security Engineers work with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. In this role, you will also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

As a Security Engineer, you will help to ensure that our software and systems are designed and implemented to the highest security standards. You will perform technical security assessments, code reviews and vulnerability testing to highlight risk, helping Google teams and partners to improve security, and work on a wide variety of software designs and technology stacks. You will also work closely with other Google Engineers to design and build proactive methods to enhance our security posture. In addition, you will have the option to specialize or perform research in a number of varying fields.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. ## Responsibilities

  • Analyze large distributed systems to discover vulnerabilities and identify architectural weaknesses to surface and stakeholders for remediation.
  • Promote quality security practices across the organization, influencing software engineers, immediate colleagues, and beyond Google.
  • Perform rapid threat modeling of large and complex systems to quickly determine areas that warrant further investigation and security review.
  • Conduct research to identify and mitigate entire classes of vulnerabilities.
