Role summary

Google is seeking Software Engineers to develop next-generation technologies for massive-scale data processing. This role focuses on BigQuery's continuous query processing, enabling complex streaming scenarios for real-time data analysis, dashboarding, and ML inferencing. Engineers will implement components for a large-scale continuous query engine, develop tests, and utilize a full suite of tools for development and rollout. The position requires experience in software development, large-scale infrastructure, distributed computing, and C++ programming, with preferred experience in database/storage systems and Java. This is an opportunity to work on a critical Google Cloud product and shape the future of data analysis.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • Experience with Distributed Computing, Distributed Databases, and Distributed Systems.
  • Experience programming in C++.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • Experience working with database or storage systems.
  • Experience programming in Java.

Big Query is a multi-tenant cloud-based data warehouse storing exabytes of user data. Our team is working on a long-term innovative effort to support continuous query processing in BigQuery. This will enable our users to run complex streaming scenarios ingesting/exporting real time data from/to Pub-Sub/Kafka/Bigtable for dashboarding, online monitoring, real-time ML inferencing. Responsibilities

  • Implement components to support a large scale continuous query engine.
  • Implement tests and experiments to evaluate and monitor the performance of the system.
  • Use the full battery of tools and instrumentation to develop, test, and rollout features.
  • Coordinate with product engineers in all parts of the software stack.
  • Debug and solve customer issues/respond to customer feedback.
