Senior Software Engineer

The position is on-site only, located at Millwork Commons (1111 N 13th Street, Omaha NE), available to local applicants only.
The Role
This is a high-ownership, high-trust role.
You’ll be expected to make decisions, move forward without perfect information, and course-correct quickly as we learn.
You’ll be given problems, not tickets—often loosely defined—and you’ll help shape the solution from idea to production, solving problems with the people who have those problems. That means asking the right questions, understanding user and business constraints, designing pragmatic solutions, and building them efficiently.
AI-assisted development is a core part of how we work—not a bonus or an afterthought. You should be comfortable using modern AI tools to accelerate design, coding, testing, and iteration, while still understanding the systems you’re building deeply enough to reason about tradeoffs, failure modes, and long-term impact.
What You’ll Do

• Own solutions end-to-end: from problem framing → solution design → implementation → iteration
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical teammates, including product, design, operations, sales, marketing and most importantly our customers
• Build and evolve frontend and backend systems with an eye toward security, privacy, and reliability
• Use AI tools thoughtfully to move faster without sacrificing quality or contextual understanding
• Improve existing systems when needed—but avoid over-engineering
• Help shape engineering practices in a small team where your voice matters

• Are a strong engineer who could build without AI—but is finding ways to improve your workflow with AI
• Are comfortable working from ambiguous problems and clarifying them yourself
• Have a product mindset and care about why something is being built and the outcomes our customers desire
• Communicate clearly and confidently with both technical and non-technical people
• Aren’t afraid to question assumptions, suggest alternatives, or try new tools
• See engineering as a creative, problem-solving discipline—not just implementation

Technical Experience

• Strong experience with TypeScript and modern React
• Experience building backend APIs and services (language/framework flexibility is fine)
• Solid understanding of relational databases and data modeling
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and automated testing

Experience in startups, social enterprises, or fast-moving teams is a plus
A Note on Fit
This role is not a great fit if you prefer:

• Fully detailed specs before starting work
• Heavy process and rigid agile ceremonies
• Optimizing for perfection over learning and iteration
