We are seeking a highly skilled
Data Scientist
to support a Child Protective Services proof-of-concept initiative focused on transforming intake processes through Natural Language Processing (NLP) and advanced machine learning techniques. The ideal candidate will bring
1–3 years of experience
in data science, including machine learning, statistical modeling, and data engineering, with the ability to design and implement scalable, data-driven solutions that improve decision-making and child welfare outcomes.
Key Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Define and implement development frameworks, milestones, and risk mitigation strategies while analyzing existing workflows to identify gaps and optimization opportunities
- Lead the design and development of NLP-driven machine learning solutions, evaluating architectural, data, and computational trade-offs for performance, scalability, and security
- Work with large-scale and diverse datasets (including CCWIS), leveraging strong data engineering expertise to process high-volume data (700M+ records) efficiently
- Oversee model development, testing strategies, and full prototype implementation in collaboration with stakeholders
- Provide technical leadership, conduct demonstrations, gather feedback, and contribute to roadmap planning for scalable integration within an Agile environment
- Apply deep knowledge of machine learning, statistical modeling, and build models from scratch with a strong understanding of algorithm trade-offs
- Demonstrate experience supporting U.S. Federal programs requiring TS/SCI clearance
- Develop stochastic, non-rule-based decision systems and translate complex human and social processes into effective computational models
- Hold an advanced degree (Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or a related field
