Role summary

The Test Engineering Technician/Engineer will conduct electrical testing on automotive components and develop test software. Responsibilities include modifying and implementing test control systems to validate product safety, fit, function, and durability according to specifications. The role involves setting up electrical tests, developing/debugging LabVIEW code, creating technical documentation, maintaining test equipment, fabricating prototype harnesses, and developing test fixtures. Additionally, the position requires estimating effort and costs, supporting cross-functional teams, driving process improvements, and assisting with training. This is a 6-month fixed-term contract role requiring onsite work.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Test Engineering Technician/Engineer will support the Test Engineering team by conducting electrical testing on automotive components and developing test software. This role is also responsible for modifying, developing, and implementing test control systems to validate product safety, fit, function, and durability in accordance with customer specifications, internal standards, and automotive industry requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Test Execution: Set up and perform electrical tests utilizing power supplies, function generators, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and CAN/LIN communication hardware and software.
  • Test Software Development: Develop, modify, and debug LabVIEW code to support test equipment functionality, ensuring alignment with project capability and timing requirements. Conduct research on new tools, best practices, and methods for optimizing test control systems.
  • Technical Documentation: Create, review, and release technical documentation to support the design and continuous improvement of multidisciplinary validation equipment throughout the product development and release phases.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Calibration: Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain test equipment as required to ensure reliable operation.
  • Prototype Harness Fabrication: Design and assemble prototype wiring harnesses to support testing and engineering activities, including the use of crimping and soldering tools.
  • Equipment and Fixture Development: Select components, coordinate procurement activities, and collaborate with suppliers to build test cabinets and automation platforms. Plan, purchase, and install test fixtures and instrumentation on a test‑by‑test basis.
  • Effort & Cost Estimation: Estimate effort, cost, and resources required for test software development and electrical test setup creation. Provide input to management regarding equipment capability needs and future investment requirements.

8.Cross-Functional Support: Support validation engineers and system engineers in developing program-specific validation equipment and software to meet customer requirements.

9.Process & Productivity Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance testing processes, improve equipment development efficiency, reduce costs, and mitigate risks.

  • Training Support: Assist the supervisor in delivering training on test software operation and related tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma/Degree in Electromechanical, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering Technology, specializing in Control Systems, Mechatronics, or Computer Software.

2.Experience with automotive standards such as GMW3172, GMW3097, and Stellantis CS.00054 is preferred.

  • Experience with NI LabVIEW or PLC programming is considered an asset.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.

5.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced automotive environment with frequent changes in priorities and timelines.

6.Strong decision‑making skills based on assessment of benefits, risks, timing, and opportunities.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workloads while maintaining high attention to detail.

8.Excellent data collection and analysis skills, with proficiency in standard tools such as Excel, Minitab, LabVIEW, and DIAdem.

Pay: $70,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
