Role summary

Hargrove is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineering Intern to assist with automation and controls engineering tasks, including DCS, PLC, and HMI systems development. The intern will perform increasingly complex engineering assignments under direct supervision, utilizing theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. Responsibilities include completing assignments on schedule, learning design standards, assisting with problem-solving, and producing preliminary and detailed design documents. The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering program with a GPA of 2.7 or above, proficient in Microsoft Office, and possesses good time management and communication skills. This hybrid role offers opportunities for on-site support and is part of a 100% Teammate-owned company.

# What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing increasingly complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. Assignments may be extremely varied and diverse in nature and may include assisting with automation and controls engineering and DCS, PLC, and HMI systems development, depending on project availability. Opportunities may be available for on-site support. This work will be performed under direct supervision and in a close group of teammates.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to complete assignments on schedule.
  • Ability to learn and utilize automation engineering design standards.
  • Assisting in problem solving to determine the most simple, efficient approach to solving engineering tasks.
  • Assisting in producing estimate level preliminary designs.
  • Assisting in producing detail design calculations, spreadsheets, reports, drawings, and sketches for various projects.
  • Assisting engineers and specialists in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.

# Ideal Background

Education: Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master program of Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering program at an accredited university is required. GPA: 2.7 or above

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to learn new skills in a timely manner.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Forecasting hours to complete assignments.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
