Data Engineer
Role summary
The Data Engineer will enhance Hilti North America Operations by strengthening the analytics landscape and streamlining information flow. This role involves designing and maintaining automated data pipelines, improving access to critical operational data, and minimizing manual process errors. Key responsibilities include developing technical solutions, analyzing data with tools like Power BI and Azure Data Factory, and supporting operational excellence through data-driven insights into warehouse performance, inventory, and freight spend. The position requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of five years of programming experience in languages such as Python, Scala, Java, and SQL.

The Data Engineer enhances Hilti North America Operations by partnering with cross functional teams to strengthen our analytics landscape and streamline information flow. This role designs and maintains automated data pipelines, improves accessibility to critical operational data, and minimizes errors from manual processes. By enabling clear insights into warehouse performance, inventory levels, Hilti Store operations, freight spend, and chemical inventory, the Data Engineer directly supports operational excellence and continuous improvement across the business.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design and create technical solutions in various systems to achieve results across Operations in support of process excellence
- Identify solutions that exist in core systems (SAP, BI, Salesforce) as well as provide innovative design/ programming alternatives (Python, Scala, Java, SQL server, etc.) to address process gaps
- Conduct analysis, partnering with functions to quantify opportunities/results, and then create reports utilizing Power BI, Global Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, SAP S/4 HANA, SAP Query, and BI
- Design reports, tables, and queries to enable assessment and results tracking as well as continue to support existing technical tools
- Apply solid understanding of business model to focus on process improvements, failure analysis, and identification of productivity gain opportunities
- Must be able to partner cross-functionally with team members in various departments and function in a strong team environment within Operations
- Stay up to date on innovation in design processes and technologies
- Additional duties as assigned
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Engineering, MIS, Statistics, or Finance (or equivalent work experience), required
- Master's degree in computer science, Data Engineering, MIS, Statistics, or Finance, preferred
- Minimum five (5) years of development and data engineering experience programming in PowerShell, SQL, Scala, Python, Java, required
- Experience with business intelligence software (Power BI, SAP Analytics Cloud, Tableau, etc.), preferred
- Advanced SAP Technical reporting ability, including creating and analyzing reports for streamlining and simplification
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience with data integration tools (Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Alteryx, SAP Data Services, etc.)
- Experience with Azure Data Services (Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Purview, etc.), Microsoft Power Automate, & Alteryx, preferred
- Advanced knowledge of SAP & Business Warehouse, preferred
- Rich architecture knowledge based on experience and training/education, required
- Competence in API design and development, preferred
- Experience working with cloud solutions and contributing to data modernization efforts
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to share and explain insights and create documentation materials for appropriate audiences
