AutoSys DevOps/Automation engineer
Role summary
This is a 100% remote, contract role for a DevOps/Automation Engineer with a focus on enterprise-scale discovery and inventory of non-standard schedulers across tens of thousands of servers. The engineer will design and implement discovery methods, leverage existing tooling, and build Ansible playbooks and scripts for data gathering and normalization. Responsibilities include structuring findings into a CMDB-like inventory, establishing processes for job tracking and remediation, partnering with governance stakeholders, and developing dashboards and integrations for reporting and governance tracking. The role requires strong Linux administration, scripting (Bash, Python), Ansible experience, familiarity with discovery/endpoint management tools, data structuring, and observability tooling like Splunk.
Job Title: DevOps/Automation engineer
Location:100% Remote
Duration: 6+ Months
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
Discovery & Inventory (Primary Focus)
- Design and implement enterprise-scale discovery methods to detect non-standard schedulers (e.g., cron and other ad-hoc scheduling mechanisms) across tens of thousands of servers and platforms.
- Leverage and/or integrate with existing endpoint and discovery tooling (e.g., BigFix, Tanium-style scanning approaches) to identify scheduling artifacts, ownership, and execution patterns.
- Build and run Ansible playbooks (and complementary scripts) for scanning, data gathering, normalization, and secure export of findings.
- Capture results into a structured inventory (CMDB-like dataset, database, or governed repository), including:
- scheduler type/job definition evidence
- host/app identifiers
- run frequency & criticality indicators (where available)
- owner/team attribution and contact mapping
- migration readiness metadata and disposition status
Process & Controls (Audit-Driven Outcomes)
- Establish repeatable processes, standards, and controls to ensure identified jobs are tracked and remediated, with corrective actions closed by November (aligned to year-end code freeze pressures).
- Partner with governance/cyber/compliance stakeholders to define consequence models, reporting cadence, and enforcement mechanisms for non-standard scheduler eradication.
- Produce clear documentation and operational runbooks for: discovery execution, data handling, exception management, and handoffs to application teams for migration.
Observability, Reporting & Integration
- Develop dashboards and reporting views (e.g., via Splunk queries or data visualization layers) to show: discovery coverage, findings, owners identified, and remediation progress.
- Build lightweight data integrations (APIs/ETL) to ingest discovery results into enterprise repositories and enable governance tracking.
- Collaborate with Wells Fargo project management (PM handled internally) and application teams to prioritize findings and support migration execution planning.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years in DevOps / SRE / Platform Engineering / Automation Engineering roles
- Strong experience in Linux administration and scripting (Bash, Python, etc.); Windows exposure is a plus
- Hands-on Ansible experience (playbooks, roles, inventory design, secure credential handling)
- Experience with large-scale discovery or endpoint management/scanning tools (e.g., BigFix or similar)
- Ability to structure messy/heterogeneous data into normalized inventories (SQL, JSON, data pipelines, ETL concepts)
- Familiarity with observability/log tooling (e.g., Splunk-style querying, dashboards, operational reporting)
- Strong documentation, process-building, and cross-team communication skills (enterprise governance environment)
Nice-to-Have (Not Required)
- Understanding of enterprise workload automation and batch scheduling concepts
- Exposure to AutoSys is helpful but
not required
for these roles (migration is performed by application teams / Wells Fargo).
- Experience working under audit/compliance-driven remediation programs
