Founding Hardware Engineer
Role summary
We are seeking a Founding Hardware Engineer to build our initial product from prototype to production. This hands-on role involves owning the hardware stack, including system design, electronics, sensor integration, prototyping, testing, and iteration. The ideal candidate is comfortable with early-stage ambiguity, can make practical engineering decisions, and has experience with wearable devices, embedded systems, low-power design, or physiological sensing. You will work closely with the founder and cross-functional teams to define the hardware roadmap and bring the product to life.
We’re hiring a Founding Hardware Engineer to help build the first versions of our product from prototype to real-world use.
You’ll work closely with the founder and own major parts of the hardware stack, including system design, electronics, sensor integration, prototyping, testing, and iteration. This is a hands-on role for someone who can move fast, make practical engineering decisions, and turn rough ideas into working hardware.
You should be comfortable working across early-stage ambiguity, building quickly, and improving the product through repeated testing and iteration. Experience with wearable devices is a big plus, especially if you’ve worked with sensors, embedded systems, low-power design, or hardware meant for continuous real-world use.
Experience in neuroscience, physiological sensing, or biosignals is also valuable, especially if you’ve worked with things like eye tracking, PPG, EDA, EMG, EEG, IMUs, or related systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of early hardware prototypes and production-ready designs.
- Design and integrate electronics, sensors, embedded components, and supporting hardware systems.
- Work on form factor, power, reliability, and real-world usability.
- Build, test, debug, and iterate quickly.
- Help define the technical roadmap for hardware as an early core team member.
- Work closely with software, algorithms, and product direction.
Requirements
- Strong hardware engineering experience, ideally in consumer devices, wearables, embedded systems, or related hardware products.
- Experience with rapid prototyping, debugging, and hardware iteration.
- Comfortable working in an early-stage startup environment with high ownership.
- Able to make sound engineering tradeoffs across performance, size, cost, and speed.
Nice to have
- Experience building wearable technology.
- Experience with physiological, biomedical, or neuroscience-related sensors and systems.
- Experience with eye tracking, IMUs, signal acquisition, or low-power embedded devices.
- Experience taking hardware from prototype toward manufacturing.
Location
Candidates must be based in Canada or the United States.
Please note: we are not able to provide U.S. visa sponsorship or visa transfer support for this role. You must already have authorization to work in Canada or the U.S.
