Role summary

Seeking a freelance Product Designer with expertise in wearables, specifically eyewear, to develop a sunglasses concept into a functional prototype. The role requires advanced 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar) and prototyping experience (3D printing, CNC machining). You will create detailed CAD models and technical specifications for manufacturers, design an attachment mechanism for hard and soft goods, and provide manufacturing documentation. Prior experience connecting hard to soft goods is essential. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of children's eyewear safety standards and Design for Manufacturing (DFM). This is a hybrid remote contract role in Saint Petersburg, FL.

Project Overview:
Seeking an innovative product designer to develop sunglasses concept further and help turn concept into functioning prototype. Must be able to create CAD / 3D models and technical specifications for new concept in eyewear design.

Scope of Work:
Develop and translate concept into detailed CAD / technical designs for manufacturers
Design attachment mechanism that can be used with a combination of soft and hard goods.
Provide documentation recommendations for manufacturing, including materials and detailed design specs.

Estimated Timeline: 1-3 months; Estimated Hours: TBD

Current Status: Concept stage - we have the general idea and need assistance in fine-tuning the design to then lead into prototyping stage.

Required Experience:
Wearable / eyewear, headwear, or face-worn product design experience
Advanced 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
Prototyping experience (3D printing, CNC machining, etc.)
Product prototype development / Industrial Design background

Must have prior experience or advanced working knowledge of connecting hard goods to soft goods.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of ASTM F2613 or other children's eyewear safety standards, like CPSC or CPSIA
Mechanical design expertise (adjustment mechanisms, locking / latching mechanisms,)
Design for Manufacturing (DFM) expertise

Basic knowledge of US patent process

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Saint Petersburg, FL 33712
