Role summary
The Product Manager - Commercial Lines is responsible for developing and managing commercial lines of business within the insurance industry. This role involves performing rate and product analysis, monitoring profitability, and providing product support and training. Key responsibilities include identifying and advising management on product and pricing issues, preparing regulatory filings, and analyzing products for various factors such as efficiency, appropriateness, and cost containment. The position also requires assisting with statistical research, data manipulation, and report generation, ensuring quality control and usefulness of departmental reports.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develops and manages commercial lines of business by performing rate and product analysis, monitoring profitability to achieve approved targets.
- Provides product support and training to multiple areas of the organization.
- Identifies and advises management on product and pricing issues when necessary.
- Prepares and responds to filings, other regulatory inquiries and communications with the State Insurance Department and Rating Bureaus.
- Assists in developing new products and product enhancements.
- Analyzes products for efficiencies, appropriateness, serviceability, cost containment, and statute conformity.
- Analyzes products and ensures adequate pricing.
- Assists with statistical research, data manipulation, project modeling and report generation.
- Assists with quality control, user access, user understanding, and usefulness of department reports.
Knowledge And Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience with property and casualty insurance knowledge. Other desired coursework may include mathematics, statistics, computing, finance, or other analytical topics.
- 3 years’ experience in the insurance industry.
- Familiar with insurance products and regulations.
- Ability making sounds decisions and substantiate these decisions.
- Effective utilization of computer systems including company and industry related software for essential job functions
- Continuing effort and desire to increase knowledge through applicable training, designations, and/or certificate programs.
