Role summary

IUSM Data Services is seeking a Data Engineer to provide end-to-end data solutions for the Indiana University School of Medicine. This role involves performing data management tasks such as modeling, conversion, de-duplication, migration, and data quality issue resolution. The Data Engineer will design, develop, and implement custom data systems, reconciliation tools, and complex stored procedures and queries. Responsibilities include building technical software mechanisms for integrations, ensuring documentation and security standards are met, and troubleshooting data-related issues. The role also requires staying updated on data engineering best practices and security threats, and exploring new technologies like AI to deliver impactful solutions.

IUSM Data Services provides end-to-end data solutions for the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). Our teams build applications, integrations, and analytics that make data actionable, supported by a standardized and scalable data environment. Job Summary

General Responsibilities

  • Performs data management tasks, including experienced data modeling, conversion, de-duplication, migration, and identification and repair of data quality issues.
  • Designs, develops, and implements custom data systems and reconciliation tools, processes, rules, solutions etc. to validate data, match/merge, and upload batch lists.
  • Creates and tunes complex stored procedures and queries for data management and extraction.
  • Designs and builds out technical software mechanisms to accommodate multiple integrations accurately based on complex rules and custom solutions.
  • Ensures documentation and security standards/protocols are recognized and followed.
  • Provides experienced troubleshooting and problem analysis/resolution for data related issues; performs experienced scripting and modifications of application and products for corrective action.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date with data engineering best practices and approaches; stays abreast of latest security threats and risks to proactively address potential exposures.

  • Works with stakeholders to identify and understand complex problems and explores new techniques and technologies, including AI, to deliver solutions.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in computer science, information science, or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years of data management, engineering, or related experience.

Preferred

  • 2 years of professional experience in data engineering, programming, or other data related field.
  • Experience writing SQL and Python; familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (such as Azure or Amazon Web Services).
  • Front end or user experience development; familiarity with Docker or Kubernetes; application development.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

Indianapolis, Indiana

This is a fully remote position. However, this is subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
