Role summary

Itron is seeking a Systems Test Engineer in West Union, SC, to support sustaining product lines and troubleshoot customer inquiries. This role requires a systems-thinking approach to identify and resolve technical issues across hardware, software, and firmware. The engineer will write code, utilize sustaining tools, and run tests in an internal environment. Key responsibilities include analyzing complex software systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and providing input on testability. The position requires strong coding abilities in languages like C/C++ and scripting skills in Bash/PowerShell, along with an understanding of integrated systems. This is a hybrid role with occasional on-site requirements.

Using current programming language and technologies, this Systems Test Engineer at our West Union, SC facility will support sustaining product lines and troubleshooting system-wide customer inquiries. This engineer must be a big-picture thinker to hunt down technical issues across different products.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a hybrid and cross-functional team to support sustaining Itron products through resolving technical systems issues
  • Assist with running and leading investigations to locate and resolve technical issues across hardware, software, and firmware systems
  • Write code and utilize sustaining tools to resolve system issues, including running tests in an internal test environment
  • Support team triage goals, margins, and customer timelines
  • Provide feedback and input on testability of functional requirements, product designs, and estimating/planning
  • Analyze and deconstruct complex software systems
  • Partner with and influence others to achieve resolution, including supporting co-op employees
  • Attend occasional on-site team meetings in West Union, SC

## Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred). Open to considering applicants close to graduation.
  • 0-2 years of related experience as a Systems Test Engineer
  • Live, or be open to relocation, within a reasonable commuting distance to West Union, SC. (This is not a remote position. There is flexibility to work from home with occasional on-site responsibilities.)
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
  • Strong coding abilities (preferred C/C++) and grasp of object-oriented programming languages (preferred C# and JavaScript)
  • Exposure to writing Bash and PowerShell scripts
  • Understanding of integrated systems and curiosity to understand how they interact
  • Ability to troubleshoot code written by others
  • Professional workplace communication skills

## Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working in variable development environments (Agile, continuous development, and/or iterative)
  • Related intern, co-op, or work experience

Travel: 0-10%
