Role summary

The Medicine Program seeks an experienced leader to join its Leadership Team as a Program Manager. This role provides clinical and operational oversight, ensuring safe, effective, efficient, and patient-focused care. The Program Manager is responsible for staff engagement, fiscal accountability, and collaborating with the broader organization for system performance improvement. Key duties include monitoring quality improvement, optimizing work processes, managing budgets, addressing adverse events, fostering staff development, and improving patient flow. Qualifications include an undergraduate degree in Nursing or Allied Health, with a Master's degree being an asset, and a minimum of five years of related healthcare experience, including two years of preferred leadership experience.

DESCRIPTION:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to become a part of the Medicine Program

Leadership Team. As an innovative and patient-centred health care professional with a proven record of accomplishment, the successful candidate will work to build a culture of collaboration, engagement and accountability.

The Program Manager provides clinical and operational oversight and is responsible for ensuring:

  • Safe, effective, efficient and patient-focused care
  • Staff engagement and team leadership
  • Fiscal accountability and value-for-money in care delivery
  • Collaboration with the broader organization to achieve synergies and system performance improvement

The Program Manager also works closely with the Program Operational Director and other stakeholders to achieve additional specific individual, program and organizational goals.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:

  • Monitors and promotes quality improvement through ensuring compliance with quality standards, professional accountability and statutory/regulatory requirements.
  • Has a strong understanding of the ALC processes and practices.
  • Reviews and optimizes work processes to ensure all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner, and that patient, worker and workplace safe practices are consistently applied, including appropriate chart documentation where applicable.
  • Works within established budget, monitoring and reporting on any variances while working to improve efficiency and develop creative strategies to reduce risk.
  • Works with key stakeholders to monitor, remediate and decrease adverse events, especially falls, medication incidents, pressure ulcers and employee injuries, performing event/incident follow-up and leading investigations involving the unit staff/patients.
  • Promotes strategies and mechanisms which foster staff engagement, learning, professional growth, mentoring and teaching.
  • Works in partnership with employees to promote a positive culture of engagement, job satisfaction, regular attendance and fiscal accountability, following up on variation as needed. The program manager specifically addresses drivers of overtime and sick time to improve overall unit performance.
  • Works with other managers, patient flow/operations leaders and the clinical team/physician leads to optimize patient flow and inpatient capacity through clear communication, appropriate staffing, coordinated patient care delivery and ongoing collaboration with others.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Nursing or an Allied Health Profession.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Allied Health, or equivalent an asset.
  • Current member in good standing with a recognized health related regulatory body.
  • Two years leadership experience preferred.
  • Minimum five years related healthcare experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Demonstrated commitment to achievement and collaboration.
  • Has broad knowledge with the ALC processes and practices.
  • Understands leading practices with patient flow and various levels of transitions of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and facilitate change.
  • Demonstrated good judgement, decision-making, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Project Management and or Continual Quality Improvement methodology, i.e. Lean.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to deal with numerous demands in a professional and competent manner.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks for self and others.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check required.
