## The group you’ll be a part of
Pilot Engineering is a fast paced, flexible, and creative organization responsible for rapidly transitioning new products from the design phase into high volume manufacturing while maintaining and exceeding the high-quality standards that our customers expect.
## The impact you’ll make
As a Test Engineer at Lam, you'll design and implement efficient testing methods for product development and manufacturing, improving quality and reducing cycle time. You'll perform diagnostic tests, design test features and equipment, and create detailed specifications for new products. Your strategic planning of labor, schedules, and equipment ensures effective testing operations. Join us in shaping the future of precision and reliability at Lam.
## What you’ll do
The Pilot Test engineer develops and deploys manufacturing process documentation, creates and updates visual instructions in the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) in accordance with engineering specifications, and develops and implements revised testing strategies to optimize cycle time and labor hours. TE’s develop and deploy hardware and software through scripting language to allow for the automated testing and characterization of complex electromechanical assemblies. TE’s also design and deploys test fixtures to enable testing and characterization.
In this role, scripting of existing test methods in Lam’s proprietary testing language or in Python will be the primary focus. Responsibilities will include translation of manual test procedures (used during the development process) into scripts that can be run in an automated environment to enable the transition into the HVM factory; developing strategies and methods to determine which tests are appropriate to be automated; and working to develop and deploy test methods that can be moved upstream into the manufacturing process to occur during assembly or in parallel with the assembly process.
- Responsible for testing and validating new state-of-the-art products as they transition from the design phase to high volume manufacturing.
- Interfaces with design and product teams on upcoming products via Design Reviews and CFT’s. Evaluates the impact on testing, and provides feedback on Design for Manufacturability and Test.
- Owns and drives the customer-driven test schedule for assigned new products.
- Prepares test and diagnostic programs, designs test fixtures and equipment, and completes test procedures for new products.
- Designs, develops and implements cost-effective methods for testing systems and equipment for all phases of a product.
- Plans the labor, schedules and equipment required for automated test development and deployment.
- Troubleshoots and resolves issues through innovative 'out-of-the-box' thinking in addition to structured problem solving
- Perform and assess DFMA and pFMEA on new products
## Who we’re looking for
- A STEM Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.
- Excellent understanding of equipment functionality and functional troubleshooting (Thermal & Gas-Flow characteristics, RF engineering, Vacuum, pneumatic, Electrical and Power Distribution systems, Instrumentation & Controls).
- Ability to read and understand system level interconnect diagrams, P&ID and electrical schematics.
- Assess test implications based on new product functionality and change content. Related risk identification and development of mitigation plans.
- Big-picture understanding across multiple product families with the ability to provide tangible inputs towards test architecture, test fixture design strategy & related decision making.
- Identification of opportunities for test time reduction through both leading both continuous improvement and step-function changes.
- Programming skills to enable automated testing and characterization through script development
- Structured problem solving skills leveraging inputs such as functional documentation (electrical schematics, control logic, gas flow paths)
- Strong understanding of the synergy potential with cross-functional teams & functions with the ability to co-ordinate accordingly in the assigned programs.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work onsite
## Preferred qualifications
Scripting and automation experience must be partnered with a solid foundation in engineering disciplines, as the ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of product testing, experience in troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical assemblies, and experience in a manufacturing environment where lean principles, cycle time, and labor hours are all critical variables in the overall test process, as well as a background and necessary skills in automation and scripting
