Role summary

Loblaw Companies Limited is seeking a Senior Business Data Analyst for its Finance Insights and Technology Engagement (FITE) team. This hybrid role, based in Brampton, requires 2 years of related experience and a degree in a relevant field. The analyst will manage financial analytics and reporting, foster stakeholder relationships, understand requirements, and deliver tech-based solutions. Key responsibilities include summarizing data for reports and models, managing data processes, project management tasks, designing complex SQL queries in Google BigQuery, conducting code reviews, maintaining data documentation, and creating dashboards using BI tools like MicroStrategy and Power Platform. A strong knowledge of SQL and working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) are required.

The Finance Insights and Technology Engagement (FITE) team at Loblaw is responsible for managing centralized financial analytics and reporting for Canada's largest and most successful retailer. Our multifaceted team synergizes their skills across various key domains including data governance, analytics, business intelligence development and process automation.
About The Role
We are looking for a talented and motivated
Senior Business Data Analyst
to join our FITE team. You will be working with various teams and stakeholders to foster relationships, understand requirements, and use a vast array of tools to deliver tech-based solutions. You will also rely on a creative mind and be able to think outside of the box. The ability to communicate and present to various levels within the business and to external partners is of utmost importance. A strong knowledge of SQL is required, as well as working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
*Please note our hybrid work policy is 4 days in office at 1 President’s Choice Circle in Brampton.*
Responsibilities:

  • Engage with key stakeholders/teams in Finance to ensure their reporting needs are fulfilled.
  • Summarize vast amounts of data to develop reports and models that solve business problems.
  • Work with business partners to manage data processes that are accurate, consistent, and efficient.
  • Own project management tasks such as scoping, impact assessments, effort estimates, risk mitigation, activity status updates and issue escalation.
  • Designing, building, and optimizing complex, large-scale SQL queries directly in Google BigQuery.
  • Conduct code and data design reviews within the team and with the Loblaw Technology team.
  • Create/maintain comprehensive and accurate data documentation to ensure retention of institutional memory.
  • Create insightful dashboards and reports to support business decisions using a range of BI tools, including MicroStrategy, Power Platform, and Excel

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years related work experience in a similar role.
  • University degree or post-secondary education in Finance, Business, Math/Statistics, Analytics or other relevant field.
  • Working knowledge of database applications such Google BigQuery, MS SQL Server and Teradata.
  • Advanced level SQL skills, including complex joins, window functions, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), and performance tuning.
  • Working Experience with Application Tools such as SAS, Python, R etc.
  • Familiarity with other GCP services such as Google Cloud Storage (GCS), Dataflow, Composer (Airflow), or Cloud Functions.
  • Familiarity with and/or exposure to BI Tools such as MicroStrategy, Power BI, Tableau, etc.
  • Previous experience with SAP (or similar ERP systems) is an asset.
