Madison Social Club is a private membership club located in Midtown Memphis designed for connection, conversation, dining, and hospitality. The club offers an elevated yet welcoming environment where members gather for drinks, meals, business meetings, and social events.

We are seeking a Beverage Manager to lead and manage the club’s beverage operations. This role is responsible for overseeing the bar program, maintaining beverage standards, managing inventory and ordering, and helping lead the bar team during service.

This is a hands-on leadership position that combines operational management with floor presence. The Beverage Manager will be expected to actively participate in service when needed while also managing the systems, processes, and standards that support a high-quality bar program.

Position Overview

The Beverage Manager oversees all aspects of the club’s beverage operations including:

  • Inventory management
  • Purchasing and vendor relationships
  • Cocktail program development
  • Bar operations and standards
  • Staff training and development
  • Service oversight and floor leadership

This position works closely with the General Manager, Back of House Manager, Leadership to ensure the beverage program aligns with the club’s hospitality standards and financial goals.

The role is structured as a hybrid leadership position, combining management responsibilities with a visible presence on the floor during service.

A typical week may include a combination of:

  • Administrative management work
  • Beverage program development and ordering
  • Staff training and meetings
  • Floor oversight during service
  • Two bartending shifts per week (Sunday-Wednesday)

Compensation Structure

This is a salary-based management position and does not qualify for overtime.

  • Salary: $55,000-$65,000
  • PTO: 10 days
  • Shift meals (up to $20)
  • Club membership
  • Potential annual bonus

*Because Madison Social Club operates with a full-house tip pool, management employees are not eligible to participate in the tip pool under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).*

*Even when the Beverage Manager assists with bartending or works service shifts, they do not receive tips or tip-outs. Compensation for this role is provided entirely through salary.*

*This structure ensures compliance with federal labor law while maintaining fairness within the team’s tip pool system.*

ResponsibilitiesBeverage Program Management

  • Maintain full responsibility for beverage inventory including liquor, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic products
  • Establish and maintain par levels to ensure efficient operations and cost control
  • Place beverage orders and manage relationships with distributors and vendors
  • Monitor and manage beverage cost and shrinkage
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain accurate inventory records
  • Develop and update the cocktail menu and beverage offerings with frequent consistency

Bar Operations

  • Maintain consistent standards for cocktail preparation, batching, and garnish
  • Ensure proper bar setup and organization for service
  • Oversee bar opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation of all bar areas that meets health codes and standards
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of beverage inventory that meets health codes and standards
  • Maintain glassware and bar equipment standards

Team Leadership & Staff Development

  • Train and mentor bartenders, servers and barbacks
  • Provide ongoing beverage education and cocktail training
  • Assist with scheduling bar staff
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings focused on service standards and beverage knowledge
  • Foster a professional and collaborative team culture
  • Maintain accountability for bar procedures and service expectations

Floor Leadership & Service Support

  • Maintain a visible leadership presence during service hours
  • Monitor service flow and support bartenders as needed
  • Step behind the bar during high-volume periods when necessary
  • Ensure consistency and quality in beverage service
  • Address operational issues in real time to maintain a high standard of hospitality

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have experience in hospitality leadership roles and strong beverage knowledge.

Preferred qualifications include:

3+ years of experience in a bar leadership role (Bar Manager, Lead Bartender, or Beverage Manager)

  • Strong knowledge of spirits, wine, beer, and classic cocktails
  • Experience with beverage inventory systems and cost control
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced hospitality environment
  • High attention to detail and commitment to hospitality standards

Experience in cocktail bars,high-end & fine dining, hotels, or private clubs is strongly preferred.
