
Software Engineer
Role summary
WilderGo is seeking a Software Engineer to join its fully remote, work-from-anywhere team. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable web and/or mobile applications, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and writing clean, efficient code. The engineer will also build and maintain APIs, contribute to system architecture, and optimize application performance. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience, with at least 2 years of professional software development experience. Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Java, Go) and experience with modern frameworks (e.g., React, Node.js, Django) are essential. Familiarity with RESTful APIs, web services, and version control systems like Git is also required. Preferred qualifications include experience with cloud platforms, databases, and DevOps practices.

Time zones we support
- We support all time zones.
- We work async by default.
- When real-time collaboration is needed, we schedule it with respect for everyone’s local time.
Collaboration overlap (not “core hours”)
- We do not require fixed daily core hours.
- For cross-functional work, teams agree on a lightweight overlap window that fits the people involved.
- For response-time expectations, follow ‣ (non-urgent messages by 4:00 PM local time on working days).
- When something is time-sensitive, say so explicitly and propose a time to sync.
4-day week
- We work Monday–Thursday.
- Friday is optional catch-up time.

- You need:
- Reliable internet
- A quiet place for calls when needed
- A secure device setup (see Security policy)
When to revisit this policy
- Revisit if:
- The team spans more time zones
- More customer support coverage is needed
- Hiring requires different overlap expectations
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable web and/or mobile applications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to team best practices
- Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize application performance
- Build and maintain APIs and backend services (if backend/full-stack)
- Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs (if frontend/full-stack)
- Contribute to system architecture and technical decision-making
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of professional software development experience
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Java, or Go)
- Experience with modern frameworks (e.g., React, Node.js, Django, or similar)
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and web services
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building scalable, production-grade applications
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Experience with mobile development (iOS/Android or React Native/Flutter)
- Knowledge of databases (SQL and/or NoSQL)
- Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Passion for outdoor experiences, travel, or lifestyle products (a plus for WilderGo)
