Role summary
Mercor is seeking a full-time Contract Network Engineer with programming skills to join their Data & AI Systems team in San Francisco. The role involves analyzing network data, writing scripts in Python and Bash for data processing, and defining schemas for data pipelines to support machine learning operations. The ideal candidate has experience with enterprise networks, interpreting logs and metrics, and a curiosity for how infrastructure data becomes ML input. This position is primarily in-person.

FTE: Network Engineer (with Programming) – Data & AI Systems

$50–$70/hour

Role Responsibilities
- Review real-world data from deployed networks, including logs, configurations, telemetry, and event streams.
- Label, classify, and analyze network behaviors, issues, and anomalies to enhance AI system understanding.
- Write scripts and tools to process, clean, and transform network data using Python and Bash.
- Define schemas and structure for large-scale data pipelines to support machine learning operations.
- Collaborate closely with the client team to improve data quality and usability for ML systems.
Qualifications
Must-Have
- Experience as a network engineer with enterprise networks (switches, APs, firewalls, etc.).
- Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Comfort with interpreting logs, events, and time-series metrics.
Preferred
- Experience automating workflows or working with data pipelines.
- Curiosity about how raw infrastructure data becomes machine learning input.
