Role summary

Meta SuperIntelligence Labs is seeking a Research Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on the next generation of Generative AI models, specifically LLMs for Meta's AI chatbot. The role involves driving applied research and development in LLM post-training, with a focus on model behavior and response quality. Responsibilities include strategic leadership, algorithm development, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to productize research breakthroughs. The position requires a Master's or PhD, 2+ years of technical team management, and 8+ years in relevant R&D fields like NLP or Generative AI.

Meta is seeking hands-on Research Engineering Manager to join the Meta SuperIntelligence Labs (MSL), making direct contributions to the next generation of Generative AI models. The MSL Assistant's team is building next generation LLM model for our Meta AI chatbot. This leader will drive applied research and development in the area of LLM post-training with a particular focus on model behavior research and improving response quality.
Research Engineering Manager - Meta SuperIntelligence Labs Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of research engineers and scientists working on cutting-edge LLM technologies
  • Drive the strategy and execution of research initiatives in LLM response quality improvement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research breakthroughs into scalable products and solutions
  • Lead the development of new algorithms and systems for LLM post-training, evaluation and efficiency
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI, large language modeling and apply them to Meta’s products

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of leading research teams and delivering impactful results
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience managing technical teams, including performance management
  • 8+ years of experience in research and development in natural language processing, computer vision, generative AI, or related media technologies
  • Experience in LLM post-training, evaluation and optimization
  • Experience with large-scale systems and productization of research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in managing cross-functional or multi-disciplinary teams
  • Prior experience in building LLM foundation models
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
