Role summary
Michels Power, Inc. is seeking a Superintendent – Substations to direct field activities for substation construction projects. This role is responsible for safe and efficient planning, coordination, and execution of work, fostering teamwork across crews and subcontractors. The Superintendent will promote a strong safety culture, supervise unionized field crews, manage labor relations with IBEW, ensure quality control, and collaborate with project teams on scheduling and profitability. The ideal candidate has 5-7+ years of relevant construction experience, a High School Diploma, and OSHA 30 certification.

Position Objective
The Superintendent – Substations directs field activities of personnel engaged in substation construction projects. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing work safely and efficiently while maintaining a professional attitude and fostering teamwork across crews, subcontractors, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations
Supervise and assign General Foremen and field crews, including participation in union hiring processes
Recruit, select, and manage union workforce in coordination with IBEW halls and business agents
Ensure quality control and adherence to company standards and safety policies
Develop and maintain strong relationships with local unions, ensuring compliance with agreements
Assist General Foremen in scheduling crews, tools, and equipment to maximize productivity and minimize downtime
Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineers to develop and maintain project schedules
Review production, monitor work progress, and take corrective actions to maintain profitability and performance
Approve timesheets, pay sheets, and daily field reports
Support Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Estimators in bidding and constructability planning
Assist with review and approval of as-built documentation
Coordinate with Project teams to ensure material availability, subcontractor management, and contract compliance
Support assembly of project closeout documentation
Train, mentor, and develop field personnel while holding teams accountable for performance
Lead on-the-job training and safety tailgate meetings
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
5–7+ years of relevant construction experience (substation or utility construction preferred)
OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Desired Qualifications
10+ years of substation field experience
Experience with greenfield and brownfield substation construction
Understanding of substation switching procedures and safety practices
Experience coordinating with IBEW union labor and workforce planning
Strong knowledge of drawings, specifications, and field execution

Frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and working in physically demanding conditions

Requires close, distance, color, and depth vision with focus adjustment
Travel required depending on project assignments
