Role summary
Microsoft is seeking a Technical Program Manager (IC4) to drive large-scale programs for mission-critical location services, including location understanding, search, user detection, and geospatial services. Overview
The Senior Technical Program Manager will drive large scale programs across mission critical location services, including location understanding, location search, user location detection, and geospatial services. You will orchestrate programs that span 24x7 online services, offline data processing, and multi team service integrations, ensuring reliability, accuracy, and high-quality user experiences across global surfaces.
Success requires deep technical fluency, disciplined execution, and the ability to drive alignment across engineering, product, data, and partner teams.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
- Own delivery of mission‑critical 24x7 online services that power core location and geospatial capabilities.
- Lead offline data processing efforts initiatives that enrich geospatial datasets and strengthen ML model quality.
- Align with engineering and service partners on inputs, outputs, SLAs, and integration contracts.
- Manage cross‑team dependencies, sequencing, risk mitigation, and operational readiness.
- Drive project and release management across tightly coupled online and offline components.
- Bring clarity, resolve conflicts, and ensure alignment across engineering, product, SRE, and data teams.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
- OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
- 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex dependencies and deliver results across multiple engineering teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven track record of driving clarity and alignment in fast moving, ambiguous environments.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into crisp, executive ready narratives.
- Familiarity with incident management, service reliability, capacity planning and operational readiness for 24x7 services.
- Sold understanding of location services, geospatial data, online service architectures, and data pipelines.

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
