Software Engineer II-Foundry Agent Platform Team
Role summary
Core AI at Microsoft is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the Foundry Agent Platform team. The Foundry Agent Platform team builds several foundational areas for Microsoft Foundry to deliver AI capabilities to Azure customers:
- Agent distribution and integration features to help customers bring AI to where users already are
- A unified data layer with strong enterprise guarantees that handles a wide variety of user-facing objects
- Discovery and search features including the public Azure AI Catalog
- Billing and metrics
- Authoring frontier agents to improve our own efficiency

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operate reliable, scalable billing services and data pipelines that support Microsoft Foundry and Azure AI workloads, including high‑volume usage and telemetry processing.
- Leverage AI and automation techniques to improve billing system accuracy, anomaly detection, validation, and operational efficiency.
- Own the end‑to‑end development of features from design through production, including code quality, testing, monitoring, and live‑site support.
- Collaborate with partner teams across AI platform, commerce, finance, and infrastructure to deliver billing solutions that meet business and customer requirements.
- Apply sound engineering practices to improve system reliability, performance, and maintainability, identifying and resolving issues in complex distributed systems.
- Contribute to technical design discussions and reviews, providing input on architecture, trade‑offs, and implementation details.
- Continuously learn and apply new technologies, tools, and engineering patterns to evolve the billing platform and support future AI innovation.
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field and 2+ years of professional software engineering experience; or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field and 1+ year of professional software engineering experience; or equivalent practical experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or preferred qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining production software with high correctness and availability requirements.
- Experience operating cloud‑based services on platforms such as Microsoft Azure, including service reliability, monitoring, and live‑site support.
- Experience applying AI to accelerate software development tasks.
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
