Director of Cloud Engineering and Infrastructure

Our client is a rapidly growing enterprise organization undergoing a large-scale digital and cloud transformation. With strong executive alignment and investment in technology, they are modernizing their infrastructure and building a cloud-first strategy to support long-term scalability and innovation.

They are seeking a hands-on Cloud & Infrastructure leader to drive this transformation - someone who can define strategy, lead a team, and execute on modernization initiatives across a hybrid environment. This person must have AWS experience!

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a small infrastructure and cloud engineering team, fostering technical growth and accountability
• Define and execute a cloud roadmap aligned to business and operational goals
• Drive AWS and Azure adoption, architecture strategy, and cloud governance
• Lead cloud migration initiatives (lift & shift through modernization)
• Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available cloud environments
• Partner with development teams to support CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native practices
• Oversee hybrid infrastructure, including VMware environments and data center operations
• Own backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
• Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service delivery performance
• Drive cost optimization strategies and cloud financial governance
• Ensure security best practices across infrastructure and cloud (IAM, encryption, monitoring)
• Align with security frameworks such as NIST and CIS
• Lead infrastructure and cloud projects end-to-end (upgrades, implementations, modernization efforts)
• Communicate project updates, risks, and strategy to senior leadership and stakeholders

Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field
• 8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud, or platform engineering
• 4+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams
• Strong experience with AWS and Azure in hybrid environments
• Proven experience leading cloud architecture and migration initiatives
• Experience owning cloud strategy, roadmap, and execution
• Strong understanding of cloud cost optimization and governance
• Background in enterprise infrastructure, including VMware environments
• Experience managing vendors and third-party service providers
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and leadership

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications in AWS, Azure, VMware, ITIL, or PMP
• Experience with automation and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or similar)
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native architectures
• Experience building or maturing cloud capabilities within an organization
