(MTSI) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in El Segundo, CA, to join a systems engineering team focused on next-generation space communication systems for the US Space Force. The role involves supporting Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) activities in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, interfacing with various stakeholders including government civilians and USSF members. Key responsibilities include designing, engineering, and developing software prototypes and applications, participating in the full software development lifecycle, and working with complex algorithms. Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in El Segundo, CA. You will join a systems engineering team defining the next generation of space communication systems supporting US Space Force (USSF) satellite communications. You will support Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) activities in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment. You will interface and collaborate with SE&I team members, contractors, government civilians and members of the USSF. You will lead and support several working groups responsible for leading technical discussion, resolve and identify risk, requirement gaps, developing briefings, writing, and tracking action items, and authoring meeting minutes.
The MILSATCOM Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (MSEIT) effort provides leading edge Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) for the US Space Force’s Space Systems Center (SSC). We support the Space Force’s acquisition of state of the art satellite communications systems, providing global secure, survivable, and protected communications for our nation’s warfighters. We seek technical individuals who will thrive in a highly collaborative work environment of small teams, using the most modern tools and methodologies to tackle the challenges of integrating complex space and ground communications systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, engineer, analyze, and develop software prototypes and/or applications as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Engage with stakeholders to better define the problem space and vision to determine capabilities and priorities.
- Participate in the complete software development lifecycle: user story creation, design, development, automated testing, and operational support.
- Design and develop new features to meet evolving end-user requirements.
- Work with complex algorithms to deliver optimized solutions for the end user.
- Determine software maintainability and overall adherence to user requirements on department standards.
- Drive continuous improvement through process and tooling recommendations.
- Mentor team members by sharing innovative ideas and industry best practices.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance is required for this position
- Experience and Education: BS degree in Computer Science or Information Systems; other degrees will be considered with relevant work experience
- 3-6 years of software development, including architecture, object-oriented design, coding, and testing, with strong understanding of the software development life cycle.
- Strong experience in one or more of the following: Python, Java, or Go.
- Experience with Javascript fameworks such as Angular or React.
- Experience with web applications with microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and others.
- Familiarity with GitLab or other Tools for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and collaboration.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong passion for conducting research, tackling complex problems, and continuously learning and adopting new technologies.
- Organization capability with ability to handle competing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, communication (oral and written), and presentation skills.
Desired:
- Knowledge and experience in Jira and Confluence.
- Experience in implementing Agile Software Development methodologies for efficient and iterative project management.
- Experience with Docker, AWS and / or Azure, and Kubernetes for containerization, cloud services, and orchestration.
Compensation: *The pay range for this position in California is $102,000/year to $127,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
