Role summary
Morgan Stanley is seeking a Lead Software Engineer (VP level) with expertise in Java/React to join their Technology division. This individual contributor role focuses on designing, implementing, and testing E*TRADE Financial Trading, Investing, and Banking Web Products. The engineer will own complex client-side applications, contribute to new features and improvements, and actively participate in product design and shipping. The position requires 10+ years of software development experience, with a strong command of client-side technologies, JavaScript frameworks like React, and web technologies. Responsibilities include building scalable and maintainable systems, reviewing design documents, and collaborating with product management and development teams.

This is a Web Development Engineer role at a VP level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

The Web Development Engineer is responsible for technical aspects of designing, implementing, testing E\*TRADE Financial Trading, Investing and Banking Web Products. This is an individual contributor role with engineering ownership in complex client-side applications, including new feature work, improvements on existing code, and active participation in designing and shipping the product.
What you will do
- Design and develop highly reliable, scalable, extensible, maintainable, global, and operable products and platforms.
- Draft and review design diagrams, interface specifications, class structures, and other design documents.
- Build systems that balance resources, constraints, requirements, and complexity
- Evangelize technologies, solutions, and best practices developed with the organization
- Participate in a network of engineers to share ideas, practices, and experiences
- Work closely with product management and development teams
- You must enjoy challenging engineering problems. We are looking for someone who can solve complex issues.
What you will bring
- 10+ years of software development experience
- MS/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology or any other equivalent field
- Expert in software development domain and principles, including design patterns, code structure, programming languages, continuous integration, and deployments
- Expertise in Single Page Application, Rich Internet Application design and implementation
- Strong command of browser-side client technologies including AJAX, HTML5, CSS3, and object-oriented JavaScript
- Expert in JavaScript frameworks such as React, Mobx, jQuery, AngularJS, and Node.js
- Expert in Web Technologies (Apache, HTTP, SOAP, JSON, XML, RESTful APIs)
- Proficient in DOM API, AJAX Programming and build systems such as Webpack, Grunt, Gulp
- Strong command in Cross browser debugging and unit, integration and performance testing of web applications and mobile websites
- Knowledge of advanced JavaScript and browser optimizations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience of working with open-source technologies and engaging with the community
- Familiar with SCRUM or similar agile methodology
