About the Role

We're looking for a Mobile UI Designer who lives and breathes the mobile experience. This role is focused on designing beautiful, fast, and conversion-optimized mobile interfaces that make shopping feel effortless.

You'll report directly to the E-Commerce Owner and work as a close partner on the day-to-day design of our site -- from high-fidelity UI and interaction design to building and maintaining a mobile-first design system that scales with the business.

What You'll Do

Mobile-First Interface Design

  • Own the mobile UI layer of our e-commerce site -- designing high-fidelity screens, interactions, and micro-animations that create a premium, conversion-focused experience on small screens first
  • Design across the full customer journey: homepage, PDPs, collections, cart, checkout, and post-purchase -- always considering how each touchpoint feels on mobile before scaling to desktop
  • Translate wireframes, business requirements, and user insights into polished, production-ready UI that engineering can build with confidence

Design System Ownership

  • Build, maintain, and evolve a mobile-first design system -- including components, tokens, patterns, and interaction guidelines -- that scales as the business grows
  • Ensure the design system is practical for internal teams to use and easy for engineering to implement consistently
  • Document design decisions and component usage so the system stays coherent as the team and product expand

Site Redesign & Feature Development

  • Serve as the primary designer on our website redesign, partnering closely with the E-Commerce Owner and collaborating with the Creative Team to design, ship, and iterate in alignment with business priorities
  • Take ownership of features end-to-end -- from initial concept and exploration through final specs handed off to engineering
  • Move quickly through design iterations, balancing quality with the speed of a startup environment
  • Work within Shopify's framework to design experiences that are both visually compelling and technically feasible

Data-Driven Design & Experimentation

  • Design with speed and willingness to test design hypotheses and an ability to use results to continuously improve the user experience

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure designs are implemented accurately, flagging feasibility questions early and collaborating on solutions
  • Partner with the Creative team to ensure UI design is consistent with brand identity, photography direction, and campaign aesthetics
  • Participate in e-commerce planning and roadmap conversations, contributing a design perspective to prioritization and scoping

What We're Looking For

Must-Haves

  • 2-5 years of experience in UI or UX/UI design, with a clear focus on mobile-first web experiences
  • A portfolio that demonstrates strong mobile UI craft -- layouts, interactions, and systems designed for small screens
  • Experience building or contributing to a scalable design system
  • Proficiency in Figma, including component libraries, auto layout, and prototyping
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, iterative startup environment where priorities shift and speed matters
  • A data-driven mindset -- you use insights, testing results, and feedback to inform your decisions, not just gut instinct
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present and defend design decisions clearly to non-designers
  • Ability to work autonomously, create structure where needed, and advocate for efficient processes
  • Strong listening skills and emotional intelligence with an ability to balance user needs with business objectives

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing for e-commerce or conversion-focused digital products
  • Familiarity with Shopify's design constraints and component patterns
  • Hands-on experience with A/B testing tools or experimentation frameworks (e.g., Optimizely, Convert, or similar)
  • Background in or passion for beauty, skincare, or consumer wellness brands
  • Experience at a growth-stage or scaling DTC brand
  • Coding experience
  • Experience with Replo, Zapier or other tools to bring designs ready for development

A Note on Applications

We know great designers don't always tick every box. If you have strong mobile UI instincts, a scrappy approach to shipping, and a genuine interest in DTC skincare, we want to hear from you -- even if your background doesn't match this description perfectly.
