Role summary

NAMI Greater LA County seeks a Frontline Wellness Program Manager to lead and expand its Frontline Wellness Initiative, a support program for first responders and healthcare workers. This hybrid role involves developing partnerships, coordinating outreach, delivering trauma-informed education, and facilitating peer support. The ideal candidate has experience working with or as a frontline professional, strong community engagement skills, and a passion for mental health. Responsibilities include program planning, community liaison, group facilitation, data monitoring, and reporting. This full-time, non-exempt position offers a salary of $28-$30/hour and requires residency in or willingness to relocate to LA County.

Location: NAMI Greater LA County (GLAC), Hybrid work environment (remote and in-person)

Reports To: Director of County Programs

Status: Full-Time (Non-exempt). This is a remote and in person hybrid position

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. NAMI GLAC is the leading countywide organization composed of grassroots-based chapters that promote wellness, recovery, equality, and dignity for individuals and families affected by mental illness and the community at large.

Position Summary

The Frontline Wellness Program Manager leads the development, implementation, and expansion of NAMI’s Frontline Wellness Initiative—a targeted support program for first responders, healthcare workers, public safety professionals, and frontline staff exposed to high-stress environments.

This role involves building community partnerships, coordinating wellness outreach, providing trauma-informed education, and delivering peer-based support. The ideal candidate is passionate about mental health, has experience working as or with frontline professionals, skilled in community engagement, program delivery and understands the unique stressors facing frontline professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management & Implementation

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver NAMI’s Frontline Wellness activities, including workshops, peer support groups, in-service trainings, and debriefing circles.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with fire, EMS, police, corrections, healthcare systems, and veteran services.
  • Ensure culturally responsive, trauma-informed approaches are used in all program delivery.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Serve as a liaison to local frontline organizations and departments.
  • Represent NAMI GLAC at community meetings, wellness fairs, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Identify new partnership opportunities to expand program impact and reach underserved populations.

Facilitation & Training

  • Facilitate or oversee peer-led support groups and educational presentations.
  • Recruit and train peer facilitators with lived frontline experience.
  • Coordinate with other NAMI affiliates to ensure best practice alignment.

Outreach & Awareness

  • Promote the Frontline Wellness Initiative through presentations, social media, newsletters, and public events.
  • Collaborate with NAMI GLAC’s communications team to highlight stories of resilience and recovery.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Collect and analyze program data for grant reports, board updates, and stakeholder presentations.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with NAMI’s privacy and documentation standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education and/or formal training obtained through direct service as a frontline professional, or through close, sustained work in frontline/public safety environments (e.g., law enforcement, fire service, EMS, corrections, healthcare systems, or similar settings).
  • Extensive, direct experience as a frontline professional or significant, ongoing proximity to frontline work (e.g., working alongside frontline teams, or supporting frontline populations)
  • Experience in community outreach, mental health programs and/or non-profit organizations preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
  • Comfortable facilitating groups and providing educational presentations.
  • Familiarity with peer support principles and NAMI programs a plus.
  • Lived experience with mental health challenges, recovery, or caregiving welcomed.
  • Must live in LA County or be willing to relocate (relocation not provided)

Preferred Skills

  • Grant writing and reporting experience
  • Bilingual (especially Spanish) is a plus
  • Familiarity with mental health and wellness models specific to first responders (e.g., CISM, Peer Support Team models)
  • Skilled in public speaking and community outreach
  • Strong understanding of mental health support models.
  • Comfort with tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Zoom or other virtual platforms.

Working Conditions

  • Flexible hours, including some evenings or weekends for community events
  • Must have access to reliable transportation for outreach and partner site visits
