Software Engineer - Trust & Safety
Role summary
Nclusion is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design and development of their Trust & Safety systems. This role involves owning mission-critical services for fraud detection, transaction monitoring, and abuse prevention. The engineer will architect scalable backend systems, implement decisioning frameworks, and collaborate with data science, risk, and compliance teams. Responsibilities include productionizing ML models, building internal tooling, driving system reliability, and mentoring engineers. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of backend engineering experience with distributed systems, data storage, and APIs, with a focus on operational excellence. Prior fintech experience and familiarity with fraud detection, ML integration, and compliance frameworks are preferred.

About The Role
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll to help lead the design and development of our Trust & Safety systems. In this role, you’ll take ownership of mission-critical services that protect our customers and financial platform from fraud, abuse, and regulatory risk. You’ll work on complex, ambiguous problems and help shape the technical direction of trust and safety across the company. You’ll collaborate closely with product, data science, risk, compliance, and operations teams, and play a key role in turning evolving risk signals and regulatory requirements into scalable, reliable engineering solutions.
**What You’ll Do**
- Own the design, development, and operation of core Trust & Safety systems, including fraud detection, transaction monitoring, and abuse prevention services
- Architect scalable, highly available backend systems that operate in real time and at high transaction volumes
- Lead the implementation of decisioning frameworks, rules engines, and integrations with internal and external risk providers
- Partner with data scientists to productionize, monitor, and iterate on ML models used for risk scoring and anomaly detection
- Build and evolve internal tooling for manual review, investigations, and policy enforcement
- Drive improvements in system reliability, observability, latency, and data quality
- Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and postmortems for trust and safety events
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance
- Influence technical strategy and help define best practices for trust and safety engineering
**What You Bring to the Table**
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of production systems
- Strong backend engineering experience (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or similar)
- Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale
- Solid knowledge of data storage, streaming, and processing systems (SQL/NoSQL, batch and real-time pipelines)
- Experience building reliable APIs and services with strong observability and operational excellence
- Ability to navigate ambiguous problem spaces and balance fraud risk, compliance needs, and user experience
- Strong communication skills and experience working cross-functionally
**Nice to Have (not required)**
- Prior experience in fintech, payments, lending, crypto, or marketplaces
- Hands-on experience with fraud detection, AML, KYC, or transaction monitoring systems
- Experience integrating machine learning models into production systems
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka or similar)
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks such as AML, KYC, PCI, SOC2
- Experience building platforms or tools used by operations, risk, or compliance teams

Yearly Salary: $150,000 - $260,000
