About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Staff Software Engineer to join our dynamic team at Tools for Humanity. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing core technologies and infrastructure that underpin the World ID protocol and its expanding ecosystem. Your work will focus on building scalable, decentralized, and privacy-preserving systems that facilitate identity verification, credential issuance, and secure data management. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of decentralized identity solutions, utilizing advanced cryptography, blockchain, biometrics, and machine learning technologies. As a key contributor, you will help shape the technical direction of our platform, ensuring it is resilient, secure, and user-centric.
Qualifications

• Extensive experience in senior technical leadership roles within software engineering or related fields.
• Proven track record of leading complex projects from conception to deployment, particularly in distributed systems or identity management platforms.
• Deep expertise in designing scalable, reliable, and secure backend systems using modern architectures and technologies.
• Strong understanding of cryptography, blockchain technology, MPC systems, and zero-knowledge proofs.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
• Fast learner with a passion for innovative technology and a commitment to the company's mission.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop mission-critical backend systems that support decentralized, privacy-preserving identity protocols, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams, fostering best practices and innovative solutions for complex challenges.
• Lead cross-functional projects that span hardware, cryptography, blockchain, and software development, ensuring timely and effective delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and technical excellence.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, senior leadership, and other stakeholders to define technical roadmaps and strategic initiatives.
• Identify key technical challenges and drive initiatives to address them, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and user needs.
• Contribute to the evolution of the World ID platform by integrating new technologies and optimizing existing systems for performance and security.
