Role summary

Newsmax is seeking a Sr. News & Corporate Researcher to support management and newsroom leadership. This role involves conducting in-depth research on breaking news, current events, and corporate entities, including potential partners, customers, and acquisition targets. Responsibilities include financial, market, regulatory, and policy research, as well as executive briefing preparation and fact-checking. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of current events, politics, government, business, and international affairs, with exceptional research and fact-checking skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, online research tools, and databases is required. This position requires flexibility to work outside standard business hours.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Company research: Prepare profiles of potential partners, customers, acquisition targets, vendors, investors, and other organizations.
  • Financial research: Review public filings, earnings reports, investor presentations, industry data, and other financial information.
  • Strategic research: Support management in evaluating new markets, products, geographic expansion, partnerships, licensing opportunities, and investments.
  • Executive briefings: Produce concise research memos, background reports, talking points, charts, and briefing materials for executives.
  • Market research: Analyze industry size, growth rates, trends, competitive conditions, and emerging opportunities.
  • Data collection and analysis: Gather information from databases, government records, surveys, trade associations, research firms, and credible online sources and turn it into actionable findings.
  • Fact checking: Verify statistics, claims, quotations, company information, and other material before it is used internally or externally.
  • Regulatory and policy research: Track legislation, regulations, government policies, court decisions, and agency actions relevant to the company's operations.
  • Special projects: Conduct rapid research for senior executives on acquisitions, business development opportunities, corporate communications, litigation, presentations, or other priority matters.
  • Cross-department support: Work with finance, legal, business development, marketing, communications, and senior management on research-intensive projects.
  • Recommendations: Go beyond simply collecting information by identifying key findings, risks, opportunities, and recommended next steps.
  • News and developments: Monitor news, government actions, regulatory developments, economic trends, and other events that could affect the company.

News Research to Include:

  • Conduct in-depth research on breaking news, developing stories, current events, public figures, organizations, government agencies, businesses, and other topics relevant to Newsmax programming.
  • Provide producers, anchors, reporters, and editorial leadership with timely background research, facts, statistics, timelines, and other information needed for news coverage.
  • Monitor news developments throughout the day and identify relevant information, updates, and potential story angles.
  • Research and develop background materials for interviews, guest appearances, breaking-news coverage, and special programming.
  • Prepare concise research briefs, background documents, timelines, fact sheets, and other materials for producers, anchors, and newsroom leadership.
  • Research potential guests, experts, newsmakers, and other individuals relevant to developing stories and planned programming.
  • Review government reports, court records, public filings, studies, polling data, transcripts, news reports, and other primary and secondary sources.
  • Conduct research across multiple sources and evaluate the credibility, accuracy, and relevance of information.
  • Quickly respond to research requests from producers and newsroom leadership during breaking-news situations.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, History, English, Liberal Arts International Relations, Research, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in corporate research, news research, television production, digital media, investigative research, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of current events, politics, government, business, international affairs, and the broader news landscape.
  • Exceptional research and fact-checking skills with demonstrated ability to locate and evaluate information from credible sources.
  • Ability to quickly research unfamiliar or complex subjects and summarize findings clearly and accurately.
  • Experience researching public records, government documents, court records, public filings, databases, and other primary sources preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and factual integrity.
  • Ability to clearly organize and present research findings for staff.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, online research tools including artificial intelligence and databases.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours as required by breaking news and major events.
