Role summary
Next Unicorn is seeking a part-time, remote Product / UI Designer to join its founding team. This role involves defining user interactions for a complex, multi-sided platform serving early-stage investors and startups. Responsibilities include designing intuitive interfaces for data-heavy and AI-driven experiences, such as chat and guided flows, and working within a Material UI (React) component system. The ideal candidate will have strong UI/UX skills, experience with SaaS or workflow products, and the ability to simplify complex systems. A portfolio is required, and familiarity with design systems is preferred. This is a high-impact role requiring significant ownership and the ability to work independently.

Next Unicorn is building the operating system for early-stage investors to streamline their investment processes. We are currently piloting groundbreaking tools, including NU Deal Screener, an AI agent that reduces investor pre-screening time by up to 70% while engaging with startups on their behalf, and NU Deal Room, which uses AI-powered thesis matching to facilitate founder-investor alignment. Our mission is to revolutionize how early-startup investments are made, enhancing efficiency and success for all parties involved.
Role Description
We’re looking for a Product / UI Designer to join our founding team in a part-time, remote capacity. This is a high-impact, ownership-heavy role where you will define how users interact with a complex, multi-sided platform—spanning investors, founders, and internal workflows. You will be responsible for designing clear, intuitive interfaces for data-heavy and AI-driven experiences, including chat, guided flows, and decision-making tools.
What You Will Work On
- Design product UI across key user flows (investor dashboards, startup profiles, internal tools)
- Create intuitive experiences for complex, data-heavy workflows
- Design and refine AI/chat-based and guided interfaces
- Work within and extend our Material UI (React) component system
- Deliver clean, developer-ready specs and assets
- Collaborate closely with engineering and product in a fast-moving team
- Occasionally support light marketing or in-product visuals
What We Are Looking For
- Strong UI/UX design skills (portfolio required)
- Experience designing SaaS or workflow-based products
- Ability to simplify complex systems into clean, usable interfaces
- Familiarity with design systems (Material UI or similar preferred)
- Ability to work independently with high ownership
