Job Description Summary
Responsible for supporting the Head of Product in managing the investment product platform for Wealth Management. Serves as a key operational and strategic resource across the product lifecycle, including product additions and removals from the platform, platform integrations, governance, data management and reporting, field support, and competitive intelligence. Works cross-functionally with research, operations, fiduciary risk, the Wealth Management Client Group (NTAM), and the advisors to ensure products are properly set up, monitored, and supported. Drives process improvement and operational efficiency within the product function.
Major Duties
- Supports the Head of Product in managing cross-functional product initiatives including new product launches, product sunsets, and platform changes. Coordinates with research, operations, compliance, legal, and NTAM to ensure end-to-end execution.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge and awareness of legal requirements, regulatory environment legislative changes, and marketing trends in the industry to determine the direction for new products or enhancements to existing products.
- Owns the production and delivery of the monthly Capability Report to the advisory field, including data extraction from multiple systems, quality assurance, and continuous process improvement. Identifies opportunities to automate and streamline reporting workflows using available technology when possible.
- Serves as primary point of contact for field product inquiries, triaging advisor questions and coordinating responses across internal teams. Builds and maintains relationships with advisors and regional leadership to understand product needs and gather feedback.
- Supports product governance processes including preparation of materials for the Investment Advisory Committee (IAC) and Centrally Managed Solutions Committee (CMSC). Maintains and updates governance documentation (meeting minutes, charter, etc), RCSA controls, committee rosters, and procedural documents in alignment with corporate standards.
- Maintains and updates the product catalogue, ensuring accurate classification, coding, and system setup for all investment products on the wealth platform. Coordinates with technology and data teams on system integrations.
- Conducts competitive intelligence and market analysis to benchmark Northern Trust Wealth Management’s product offerings against peers. Tracks industry trends in product packaging, pricing, and distribution to inform product strategy recommendations.
- Supports the fee discounting process by coordinating information gathering, maintaining discount records, and ensuring alignment with the pricing policy framework.
- Assists with product communication plans for launches, sunsets, and changes.
- Supports model portfolio operations as needed, including coordination with the managed solutions team on trade execution, rebalancing communications, and model portfolio field support.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of investment products (mutual funds, ETFs, SMAs, model portfolios, alternative investments) and managing a product lifecycle is critical to job execution. Understanding of how products integrate into advisory platforms and client portfolios.
- Knowledge of product operations, systems, and data workflows acquired through work experience.
- Knowledge of product governance, compliance requirements, and regulatory frameworks applicable to investment products.
- Proficiency in data management and reporting tools.
- Project management skills are needed to coordinate cross-functional product initiatives across multiple stakeholder groups. Planning, organizational, and leadership skills needed to manage workstreams independently.
Experience
- 5–7 years of experience in investment product management, product operations, or a related role within asset management or wealth management. Direct experience with product lifecycle management, product launches, and platform integrations preferred.
- Experience working with advisory or distribution teams is highly valued. Candidates with a combination of product operations and client-facing/distribution experience are strongly preferred.
- Experience with data reporting, competitive analysis, and process improvement in a financial services context.
- Experience in a regulated financial environment (trust company, bank, or broker-dealer) preferred. Familiarity with fiduciary standards and investment governance a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree required. CFA, CAIA, or other investment-related designations are a plus but not required.
Salary Range
$114,500 - 194,700 USD
*Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay.
