Role summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, document, integrate, test, and debug software for embedded and real-time systems. This role involves working with multi-disciplinary teams in an Agile environment, analyzing system capabilities, and resolving complex technical challenges. The position requires expertise in C++ and object-oriented programming, proficiency in the full software lifecycle, and experience with Xilinx platforms (Ultrascale+ MPSoC or VERSAL). A strong understanding of integrating low-level firmware and debugging complex, multi-threaded embedded applications is essential. The role is based in Redondo Beach, CA, or Aurora, CO, and requires an active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff Embedded Software Engineer (T05) to join our talented team. This position can be based out of Redondo Beach, CA, or Aurora, CO.
What You'll Get To Do
In this role you will design, develop, document, integrate, test, and debug software for our end-user customers and businesses. Specifically, you will be responsible for the design, architecture, development, and administration of embedded and real time systems. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams, such as with Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Hardware, and Integration & Test, in an Agile software development environment. You will analyze system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline with 12 years of relevant experience; Master's degree in STEM discipline with 10 years of relevant experience; PhD in STEM discipline with 8 year of relevant experience
  • Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance required at the time of application
  • Expertise in C++ programming
  • Recent Experience with Xilinx platforms (Ultrascale+ MPSoC or VERSAL)
  • Proficient in Object Oriented programming
  • Proficient in all areas of the formal software lifecycle process from requirements to testing
  • Experience integrating low-level firmware and software in complex real-time multi-threaded embedded applications
  • Experience with developing and debugging embedded real-time systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Software Defined Radios
  • Experience leading a software team
  • Familiarity with Xilinx tools (Vitis, Vivado)
  • Familiarity with Linux kernel driver development/modifications

Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
